A non-Britisher friend wrote this in an email to me recently. I don't know how to answer him because a) I am not a real Britisher and b) I haven't come across a lot of dislike of Simon Tong — because really, who's even talking about him? Preliminary ILX research shows he is actively referred to only a handful of times, the most negative of these being that he's the "other" or "not good" Verve guitarist.
So, is my friend just imagining things or is there really some kind of nationwide anti-Tong sentiment?

School mate of (The) Verve, drafted in as guitarist when McCabe went AWOL (he taught McCabe to play or something as kids), and stayed on for Urban Hymns. When they imploded he formed a shitty rock band with Simon Jones (Verve bassist), and since then has been Damon Albarn's guitar sideman in Gorillaz and Good, Bad, Queen. In some postrock band with Youth from Killing Joke too.
