Former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker's second solo album was recorded by legendary engineer Steve Albini, after the two met at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and tried a few songs together. Further Complications is rockier than his earlier solo work and his work with Pulp, which is maybe explained by Albini's presence, although the records also contains a few soul numbers such as Leftovers.

so i'm unsure why the U.S. release has more songs, that could be a mistake.
has this leaked?
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 03:17 (seventeen years ago)
The US version has.
― svend, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 03:18 (seventeen years ago)
would like to have seen those two together in the studio
― private static void (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 03:22 (seventeen years ago)
yeah it's weird the US release gets the title track. also kinda weird because it's a pretty catchy song... i'm wondering if it's a move to have a more radio-friendly single in the US? maybe not, since most of the album is pretty radio-friendly without it... who knows. i need to listen to it a few more times before i can really tell if i like it or not. at this point i'm kindof unimpressed.
― borntohula, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 03:30 (seventeen years ago)
maybe the extra tracks are coming out separately in the UK, b-sides or something
― private static void (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 03:31 (seventeen years ago)
the UK tracklist is really odd, "I Never Said I Was Deep" is an obvious highlight!
― Simon H., Wednesday, 29 April 2009 05:28 (seventeen years ago)
id quite like to hear this but i think i liked him more when he wasnt on TV as the 'intellectual popstar' all the time.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 07:14 (seventeen years ago)
Albini makes the album sound completely undynamic, but the songs are decent. "Angela" even reminds me of Urge Overkill, like, to a T.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 07:48 (seventeen years ago)
sounds like a demo; but i dont think thats down to albini, it just sounds like a quickly put together piece. nothing amazing but You're In My Eyes is almost certainly the best solo track he's released
― Jamie_ATP, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 08:04 (seventeen years ago)
finally found it and it's OK, will have to listen to more to get a good read on it.

― lolsdale street (electricsound), Sunday, 10 May 2009 01:04 (seventeen years ago)
Paul Weller was never interesting, I don't think anyone pays serious attention to Ian Brown's solo stuff, and of course Jarvis is still great, which leaves... Morrissey, the readily overpraised, poorly aging, lecherous old man.

The kids found a pic of me when I had a brd, back when I was 26 and recovering from surgery and couldn't be bothered.
The next day, Amber saw Jarv's pic in the Graud yesterday, and was "When did you have a yellow sofa?"
― Mark G, Monday, 11 May 2009 12:53 (seventeen years ago)
fer jarv's first foray into pigfuck territory, i'd say i'm a fan, but i just wish there were some better tunes.

A few weeks in, I'm loving Angela, Further Complications and Fuckingsong.. anyone else still listening?

i was really bowled over by how much i like this.
― dream hater, come rescue me (some dude), Friday, 22 May 2009 13:33 (seventeen years ago)
a local music mag (Eye Weekly - Toronto) gave this album five stars! I don't know about that, but I'm digging his late attempt at garage rock (but I guess early Pulp stuff sort of trod this territory too?)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 22 May 2009 13:34 (seventeen years ago)
Haven't heard it all yet but so far, very very good. Angela should be a hit.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 22 May 2009 13:35 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, heard "Angela" yesterday, great.
― Mark G, Friday, 22 May 2009 13:42 (seventeen years ago)
quite enjoying this record, doesn't sound that much like an albini recording, the drums aren't OTT roomy. he should do the next one at toe rag, the looser sound suits him well i think
― jump in the looool (electricsound), Thursday, 28 May 2009 04:33 (seventeen years ago)
who's his backing band on this rec?
― jump in the looool (electricsound), Thursday, 28 May 2009 04:34 (seventeen years ago)
got my answer.. pulp bassman, dude from fat truckers, aussie dude on guitar, some other dude i've never heard of
― jump in the looool (electricsound), Thursday, 28 May 2009 04:38 (seventeen years ago)
Never paid much attention to Cocker or Pulp. I like this record for the most part but at times I think I'm listening to early Urge Overkill or Flight of the Concordes.Just a thought.j

Flight of the Concordes
