Just released on CD: the 'other' 9 tracks from the demo that didn't make it onto _Come On Pilgrim_. Ridiculous cash-in by flogging piss-poor out-takes? Or essential lost tracks which show the whole band's career in a new light? You, the jury, decide.

I'm leaning towards the latter, but only because listening to the CD is making me wonder why, if you have 'Subbacultcha' and 'Here Comes Your Man' written and pretty much ready before your first release, you hang on to them for a good few years before putting them out properly?

The same reasons G'n'f'n'R held onto "Don't Cry" presumably. Anyhow, the thing was bootlegged to death, The Pixies still sell remarkably well, it's a small catalogue, and it's not like they ever sold enough records the first time around that Black Francis doesn't need the money.

Thanks for the warning. I will make sure I do not turn on any college radio "alternative rock shows" for the next 6 months cause that's all they'll be playing around here. Am I the only person who thinks they are seriously overrated?? Maybe it my surroundings (Western MA where they started out) But the most memorible thing about The Pixies to me is how they can have such good influences and still make such boring, predictable and formatic music.

OR their first release now on a new format.

I agree, they are overrated. Perhaps influential, and certainly a decent band at the very least, but by no means gods. As someone said earlier, they are easily digestible pop for the alternative masses, which accounts for their popularity.

"easily digestible pop"

You say (or, uh, type) that like it's a bad thing.

I would like someone to explain to me how "Vamos" or "Broken Face" could possibly be considered "easily digestible pop". Personally, I'm interested in hearing this.

ps. mark s to thread for influence policing!

You know the Pixies were already overrated when they were still together but post-breakup (and, more to the point, post-"Smells Like Teen Spirit") it's really gotten out of hand. Everyone I know who owns every Pixies Cd, don't own any Husker Du Cds.

I have one of each.

I have all of each.

Hahaha J Blount you are completely right in my case because I think everything I've heard by Husker Du is APALLING.

''which accounts for their popularity.''

They are popular within the indie world= there's a big difference between that and the 'actual' world (=not very pop at all).
