'Tago Mago' followed by 'Soundtracks' followed by 'Ege Bamyasi'

dave q is absolutely right. i really like "delay 1968" but it's not really CAN. you know.

tago mago has the same thin/sharp sound qualities as the original raw power mix as discussed elsewhere (at least the cd-version of tm i heard...)
it's the only can album i know, so i'll check the other ones mentioned by dave q, thanx!

Also: 'Monster Movie' and 'Future Days'.

Everything up to Soon Over Babaluma, then tread with care.

I read an article online by a guy who spent the whole weekend listening to all of their album in chronological order.

Ege bamyasi is the best place to start but seriously - not a bad album up to Soon Over Babaluma.

No where can I get a copy of Holger Czukay's Rome Remains Rome since it seems to be deleted?

winkelmann, i found this... it's the online department of a dutch musicstore (an expensive one...). i guess they will ship it to wherever you live... however, i don't know whether they have it in stock or whether they have to order it themselves, in which case they will not be able to supply it either i guess...

I agree everything is worth hearing up to Soon Over Babaluma.

I've given Future Days three listens in the past week and right now it is my favorite, mostly because it doesn't have a 10+ minute acid noise track like Augmn or Soup. Future Days has this cool bloopy rhythm feel throughout the entire record, quite a bit of groove but still kind of laid back.

The best of the trance funk is on Tago Mago (Halleluhwah is probably my favorite song) and best mix of music is probably on Ege Bamyasi. (Ege Bamyasi is probably my REAL favorite album, but as I said I have been into Future Days quite a bit lately.)

Soundtracks, Monster Movie & Delay 68 are much more raw and have a sound more in line with White Light/White Heat era VU and early Fall. There is definitely music on those records that connects the dots between those two groups.

'tago mago' would be fine if it wasn't for those 2 15 minute dullard hippy sound whatevers in the middle; exactly the reason why 'the stooges' isn't the best record ever; also exactly the reason why 'egg bamyasi' is.

I dunno - I really prefer later Disco-Can stuff - Saw Delight, Landed and the next couple.

Tago Mago. Used to think Ege Bamyasi better but now find most of side 2 (all but Spoon) to be rather uninspired. Pinch probably my favourite Can track. Also quite fond of Landed lp.

Tago Mago and Delay 1968, but I'm also very very fond of the s/t one (with "Can Can," "Aspectacle," etc.).

in the past year, i've actually been able dig the post "babaluma" stuff, especially "flow motion".

I Like Tago Mago and Delay 1968. And Sountracks for "Mother Sky"

brg30, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1)Ege Bamyasi 2) Tago Mago 3) Delay 4) Soundtracks 5) Monster Movie

One of my fave bands (Calla) covers "Mother Sky" on an upcoming Troubleman 12". 'Tis bad. They make it sound like "My Sharona." Well, sort of. It has that peculiar guitar strum. Still a great band though and God bless them for trying!

1) Soon Over Babaluna (personal fave)
2) Tago Mago (their best album)
3) Ege Bamyasi (most fun mix of tunes)
... + lots more good albums, next faves probably Future Days or Unlimited Edition

since I first heard Babaluma (Feb 1982), it's always been my fave Can album.

Paul, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Soon Over 'Babaluna' doesn't have the same ring to it...

Paul, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

loop covered "mother sky" and even managed to slur the words like damo suzuki. not...totally..embarassing.
