glancing at my fast growing itunes collection, i see that the jam liked simple titles that were, unsurprisingly, used by others. cases in point:
--"ghosts" by the jam, albert ayler, ooberman (and probably several other artists) --"monday" by the jam, birdie (and probably several other artists)
i can think of one mccartney penned tune with a re-used title: "tomorrow" (from wings' "wild life" album, i think) was reused by the three o'clock and probably others. dunno if anyone's had the guts to title a song "yesterday," though. at least not since the 60s anyway.
a couple others that may not count due to slight differences in punctuation/spelling:
--"something for the weekend" by the divine comedy & "something 4 the weekend" by super furry animals --"shoot shoot" by kaito & "shoot, shoot!" by solex

but "blue monday" by the post-joy-division-wannabes should be excluded or perhaps distinguished as a then (un)important new low cash-in even for pop music -- burn the music betraying its ordinary influence (or "inspired" even for-cry-sake)

I never could understand how this rather bizarre concept became such a heavily-used trope in pop music.
