So there's a common line on an artist you like, that they're good because of a, b and c, so commonly that it seems likely to end up in their obituary. And you're thinking, "no, no no, that's their weaknesses. This artist is good because of X, Y and Z!!!"

This question was inspired by listening to Ani DiFranco, who is generally praised for writing lefty political songs and don't-fuck- with-me feminist antems, but in truth is only consistently good at gooey love songs, frequently of the unrequited variety. (and in fact since she got married and stopped writing such songs the quality of her work has nosedived severely)
