why does the art-school tradition of Roxy Music/Japan etc have no relationship to Pink Floyd/King Crimson era prog????
It does. And its name is Eno.

Quote from one review: Magnification uses an element that the band has not used since 1978's Tormato effort (on only one song), and the 1970 album Time and a Word before that (entire album): an orchestra. With the departure of keyboardist Igor Koroshev, the rest of the band felt it best to pursue this endeavor without an actual keyboardist, replacing that element with a full set of strings, reeds, brass, and percussion for the entire album.
Anyone heard this record? I loved "The Ladder" (1999) - a real return to form, but I've heard they've ùmoved away somewhat from the pop slant of that LP, which would be a shame if true. Moreover, rock band + orchestra has always tended towards the ponderous. Do Yes avoid this trap? Should I give the LP a try?
