big concerts

I want to go to see the Area2 concert at the Nissan Pavilion (www.nissanpavilion.com) but it looks like a horrible place. The parking is included in the ticket price. They rent lawn chairs, so you are not allowed to bring lawn chairs. There is a VIP club for season ticket holders (whatever that is). It just seems to rip the life out of the music. and the tickets are three times the normal price (not including the handling fee) Is anybody else disgusted by these types of Venues?

I went to see Radiohead at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast last year which was surprisingly intimate for a 10000 seater - i was at the front so wasn't really aware of what was going on behind me, the sound quality was fine as i remember.

A couple of weeks after that i saw Roxy Music at the SECC in Glasgow - a horrible soulless place in the middle of nowhere, that was rather less good

i really can't stand big venue shows. i had friends who went to the area2 show last year at "the docks" in toronto and they had an awful time. i'm glad i had decided not to go to that.

I don't mind large shows at all (and hell, if that's the only way I'm going to get to see certain people...). Saw Tool two weeks ago at the Forum and last year at a much smaller open-air theater -- both times great. Like Leigh says, some venues and situations work more readily where others don't.

I used to love going to Big Rock Shows when I was in high school, because Big Rock Shows == Big Mosh Pits, which can be kinda fun. On the other hand, venues like the one A Nairn talks about make me want to set up camp in a church basement and never leave. I went to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto (VIP sections, white wine sellers, etc) and sat in the general admissions area for Page & Plant (I R Rockist!!), which was great. People sitting on a muddy lawn passing joints around and throwing inflatable beach balls at the yuppies in the seats ahead is my idea of a good time.
