Apparently, famed Brit producer Gus Dudgeon (Elton John, David Bowie) was killed in a car accident 7/23.

widely regarded by xtc fans as - i believe the technical term is - "a bit of a tit". called guff dungeoun by andy because of his wind problems and prone to asking andy what relevance "rook" had to a seventeen year old girl going out on the town. oh well. still his work with the bonzos was magnificent in every way...

It wasn't Bowie sped-up? Oh dear, now I'm trying to imagine the recording session.

He produced "Space Oddity" in particular, I seem to recall.
