Hot Hot Heat = Pop Pop Beat ?

Anybody in Canada and any san diego-esque hardcore fans are probably familiar with this band although in two different manners. The first is the NEW Hot Hot Heat: in every publication saying stupid stuff and looking ridiculous. the second is the old Hot Hot Heat, an amazing post-Locust keyboard hardcore band that released a crazy hot split 12" w/ REd light sting and a few 7"s. Obviously Old=classic and New=dud but in a surprise twist a few of their new pop pop beat sounding singles are ok (Le Le Low and 5times out of 100) -some are terrible (Touch you Touch you). What's the verdict?

I liked "Touch You Touch You" in the end - went and bought a record by them cos of it.

hot hot heat are fucking! everywhere! i didn't go see them when they came through town a couple of weeks ago. mainly trying to avoid the mod crowd that would show up for that kind of show. "the guys who use fake english accents" would have probably been there as would "the ironic t-shirt posse" and "denim jacket, messy hair group".

red light sting (who i also missed through my own ignorance and just discovered yesterday) are fucking great.

i guess hot hot heat are just trying to make a little cash and get some recognition now. that's cool ...

if you like Red light sting you gotta check out the split 12" on Ache records. as much as i hate their new image/personalities/apparel that old stuff is amazing. there is also a cd called scenes 1-13 on a florida lable which has every pre-bad hot hot heat era track.

Having now listened to the record I bought ddd the ones you single out as being 'OK' are loads worse than the one you single out as being 'bad' and the record on the whole is blah so I scientifically deduce that the earlier HHH must have been REALLY bad!

I could see remixes of their stuff working though.

if you like the cure and XTC more than the locust and orchid (or say, the first Rapture ep, to be more with the times) then i can completly understand being more into 'touch you touch you' than 'le le low'. i however hate the cure, U2, XTC and similar sounding bands, therefore i cannot appreciate those elements of their sound whereas i love Le Shok and the entire GSL roster and hence love that aspect of Hothotheat. anyways, i'm seeing them tonight and some good heckling should ensue.

by the way, what do you think of the 'dirty south' master P midi patch keyboards lines? you know the really high glissando hip hop sounding ones. i haven't made up my mind on those yet either.

Touch You Touch You is the only song I like by them, but I like XTC and those things of which you speak ill. Plus, on that track he sounds like Falco!

yeah there is definitely something george clinton about those keyboard patches. i think they're pretty fucking awesome, personally.

Drop the Cure and XTC references and we're all happy! *awaits M. Matos's wrath*
