Just bought Ragga Ragga Ragga Vol 16 and this slang is all over it - Elephant Man even does a track about how everyone is now saying it! Where does it come from? I mean Jay-Z obviously but was it kicking around before him or used by other rappers first or was it an inspired coining?

it was definitely Snoop but I don't know what songs were responsible.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I blame Spoonie Luv.

Nicole, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Snoop definitely appropriated it for himself a while back. It was that video with him playing a bunch of different characters at the beginning of it (one was normal Snoop, another was pimp Snoop with bad teeth, etc). I think the song was the one with the "we want the funk/give us the funk" P-Funk sample.

'The term "FA SHIZZLE" is actually just another way to say "FA SHEEZY", which was invented by Oakland's 3x KRAZY,and quoted by E-40 on his 1996 release,"THE HALL OF GAME".The song was called "RECORD HATERS" where E-"FEEZY" stated, "My patna's 3x krazy laced me, taught me how to say FA SHEEZY".

SNOOP DOGG was first noticed saying "FA SHIZZLE MY NIZZLE" on the beginning of his video for "SNOOP DOGG",off "THE LAST MEAL" which was released in late 2000/early 2001.'

"fo shizzle ma nizzle" is a bastardization of "fo' sheezy mah neezy" which is a bastardization of "for sure mah nigga" which is a bastdardization of "I concur with you whole heartedly my African american brother"

zebedee, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

huh, Tracer got in first (ah'm heezy fo' sheezy)

zebedee, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Excellent - it doesnt seem to be being used like that at all in the dancehall tracks I'm hearing it on (I'm not quite sure how it is being used tho).

Tom, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Record Haters" is so brilliant..."What's that niggas name? Rasheed Wallace!"

Kris, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh, I'm pretty sure I remember hearing some song on the classic soul radio station here in town that was kind of like "The Name Game" in that the song was all about the slang, and every word was in this style in the song. Since most of the songs on that station are from the '60's-'80's, and this sounded pretty '70's-esque (like P-Funk), I figured it had been around since then.

A friend of mine who teaches public schools in Oakland told me about "Fasheezy" a few years ago. His kids told him it was a combination of "Fresh+Easy". Makes sense to me. To illustrate: I have a T-shirt that reads "Open Your Eyes and Recognize: Oakland 2000" - It is most definitely fasheezy.

It is all about the double dutch bus. It's so OOOOOOOOLD. Snoop did not start it.

you can't credit Snoop with this, that's just wrong. This is East Oakland slang at its best - DaveyD points in the right direction w/E-40. That man is a fucking linguistic genius - FO SHIGGADALE!

Snoop basically just copped the slang, delivered it in a Bootsy-Collins-ish clown voice and voila - mass success.

So what variations do you think Tom is hearing? Something about a bum cleezy?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

oh man I have no idea. It's hard enough lining up American hip-hop slang w/its roots without dealing with its interpolation into Jamaican patois. I love that Jamaican lilt, but I have a very very hard time deciphering it.

It is with a heavy and unprepared heart that I inform family, friends and fans that my dad, Frankie Smith passed from this life on March 8th 2019 in his lifelong home in Philadelphia PA.
The world knew him as Frankie "Double Dutch Bus" Smith but for me, he is and will always be my daddy. I'm truly grateful for the 44 years I had my father, who was my best and loyal friend as well as one of my spiritual teachers. My dad was pure love and I know he loved the Lord. My family and I find comfort in knowing he is with his heavenly father and the love of his life his mom my grandmother "Mimi", Mary Josephine Smith.
I will be sharing more posts and updates on my dad's foundation as well as a future celebration of his life. YES! Everyone will be invited to the memorial and celebration. Love you all for loving him and he certainly loved you all for your years of support. With this love I will be taking my dads name and his love of performing into the future through his foundation.
Many Blessings.
Vashon "Indy" Smith
