4th wave ska

It seems like the swing revival brought down 3rd-wave ska with it. (a friend of mine put it this way: Swing was the fat guy falling down the stairs that took down the skinny guy, Ska, who was slowly walking up the stairs.) So when do you people think the fourth wave of ska is coming?

When the skinny guy gets to the top of the stairs, presumably.

I always liked ska as such, but never liked much ska. I know that was not the question, but. . . Also I think I tend to like more "ska- inflected" music (e.g., some XTC, or an old local band Scram!) than the ska put out by ska bands.

I can't wait for the 4th wave -- the world needs more bad jokey lyrics and cookie cutter horn section/guitar action.

if only -- ska seems incapable of innovation -- its lost in a world of the good time and worse punchlines. it's 77punk's (the genre of continuously copying one sound of one period of time) happy go lucky even more challenged cousin. now let's all get chelsea haircuts and wear suspenders!

Jack Cole, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Innovation is overrated. Long live happy-go-lucky retarded cousins.

Hey Baby is still 3rd wave. 3rd wave was good.
