What do "Violet" and "Asking for It" REALLY mean?

I could just never comprehend all the lyrics to these Hole singles - anyone? And even if I could, I still think I'd be in the dark about them/ their "deep feminist contexts" ...what do they really mean?

...what is (or isn't) the "everything" she wants you to take? what does some woman "asking for it" have anything to do with being a "rock star?" ?

not that i'm discounting the feminist answers, i just want it to be clarified more i guess. because i'm dumb

i always thought that "they get what they want/ and they never want it again" refers to boys chasing you and then fucking you and that's it. and "asking for it", i don't know what that has to do with being a rock star either! but i think that the term "asking for it" is often used when a woman is attacked (especially in sexual attacks). all too often, the blame is put on the woman and she is said to have been "asking for it" because she invited the attacker upstairs, because she was wearing something tight, because she was wearing red fucking underwear. it's such a dumb phrase and i'm actually glad courtney took it back because no-one asks for rape.

yeah, those are pretty much the meanings i had gotten from both songs too, but i really wish i could understand all of the lyrics in all of them, especially "Violet" in which i only manage to grab the chorus usually. i really like how in "Asking For It" she also somehow connected it to her love for Kurt or whatever (pausing for extremely cynical sigh/smirk from those who would sigh or smirk here cynically) as she sings of how ifhe lives through this she'd die for him, etc. of course, he didn't.

Give it a shot -- I think the lyrics on that album are really good & not hard to understand (tho I can see where the singing is not always clear.)
