Most criminally underrated band ever. Really, why would anybody need any a)J-noise b)J-pop c)nuevo psychedelia d)alt-country e)grunge f)metal g)industrial h)post-punk albums while BH stuff is still in print? Why do any other guitarists even try, while P. Leary is still around? Also, do you think any other location in the world has come up with any band even slightly similar? For some reason I think there's somebody in Russia who was doing that sort of thing. I don't KNOW, I'm just guessing. (Though 'Biosinte First Session' [actually Tuvan] gives me the same sort of feeling sometimes)

There's a time to be born and a time to die, but the CUNTS at my GODDAM job are fucking w/ my interweb so for now I'll have to say bye- bye.

Oh yeah, my pick - call me a senile old EZ-listening closet Mark Knopfler fan but I think "I Saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas" is amazing

The Butthole Surfers killed themselves by releasing nothing but crap since Rough Trade America signed them and they went through Capitol and Hollywood. People's memories are short. All they have to remember is albums like Electriclarryland and Independent Worm Saloon, which arent very good things to be remembered by at all.

people's memories are short = they only remember 'locust abortion technician' and forget the more recent stuff

so who's twisted enough to vote for '22 going on 23'?

bob snoom, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the entire bootleg double. Fuck picking something off it. especially there's a time for shit and a time for god the last shit I took was pretty fuckin hard. great live too, just cause they are all so durned UGLY

I always thought that the arguement band X can do several different styles of music was pretty duff unless they really combine them. I can listen to good reggae and good spacerock or I can listen to mediocre reggae and mediocre spacerock by the Ozric Tentacles.

As for the question at hand. I've had quite a few Buttholes albums over the years but trite as it may sound Locust Abortion Technican is thee one to have. Though if I had top choose a single track from it I'm stumped: 22 Going On 23, Sweatloaf, Kuntz. Too many happy memories

Winkelmann, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Only pick one? Toughie, but I'll go with "Sweatloaf"...or their cover of the Guess Who's "American Woman" (a decade before Lenny Kravitz crapped all over it).

Does anyone remember a video project the Buttholes did about, shit, ten to fifteen years ago. It was a "video magazine" hosted by Alex Winter of "Bill & Ted..." fame. The Buttholes did a segment that parodied "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and played a fantastic track that I've never been able to name or track down, does anyone know it?

as great as early buttholes were i don't rate any of the albums as great albums per se...just collections of songs..some great..some not so....but...been thinking for years that "too parter" was/is one of the great un-sung rock classics of all time......

.....and the white men sold quaaludes to the monkeys......

at the time i liked scratch acid...and bit later laughing hyaena's...more than the buttholes....

"so who's twisted enough to vote for '22 going on 23'?"

Everyone. Including myself. Moo! Moo!

tough, really tough. its difficult, i don't have a favourite, these were like my first favourite band. i'm going to go for either Helicopter, or Too Parter, but from 83-91 you can pick just about anything...

gareth, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Kuntz' not only funny as hell but a very good, very well thought out, piece of music.
