i've been away for a few weeks, so i'm not sure if they've been covered yet. if not: soldier girl sounds like the single of the year to me right now, and the album is what "yoshimi..." should have been.

new "believe the hype" answers.

Yeah, it's what "Yoshimi" should've been, and while I enjoy it - it's a really happy album - it's still a little too over-hyped, and a little too much of an Olivia Tremor Control retread. Lotsa fun though. Partridge Family meets Danielson Famile.

Someone read the review of the single (from Time Out?) out to me in the pub and it was the most offputting thing ever but I'd like to hear from someone nice like you what they actually sound like.

The single reminded me of what Primal Scream would have done had they preferred the Mike Curb Congregation and the Association instead of the MC5. Nice, I guess, but deathless? Non.

Ha! - Ned nailed it.

I heard the single on XFM - reminded me a bit of 'She Makes My Day' by Robert Palmer. Which means it's no 'Addicted to Love' by Ciccone Youth.

i listened to the album again this morning and in the absence of sunshine it sounded way too much like an elephant 6 band, as tom predicted. don't believe the hype.

three weeks pass...
Completely unique. Don't dismiss until you have seen a gig. extraordinary.

What is so wrong with Elephant 6? Unless of course it's the Essex Green, and that's exactly what the extract on the the polyphonic spree's website sounds like.

The Essex Green were one of my favourite E6 bands
