Is it the best acid house record ever made?

Tom, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've a huge soft spot for We Call it Acieed by D-Mob but thats just 'cos I'm trying to talk up the market before selling my 12" for mucho moolah.

Where Is Your Child is very great - I'm not sure its the best but obviously I can remember the name of the best acid house track ever 'cos I would've been fried on the dancefloor when I heard it.

I also have a great fondness for all of the Shamen's early crossover acid hosue influenced singles.

Better than 'Acid Trax' by Phuture? Or 'Acid Over' by Tyree? I must hear it!

Well I'm not quite sure it is, that's why I asked the question. It's up there with "Mr Kirk's Nightmare" in the great amoral dance tracks Top 10 too.

Quite possibly.

phuture - we are phuture
armando's land of confusion
tyree - acid over
steve poindexter - born to freak (this may have been a bit later, not sure)

hardfloors jack mix comp is worth getting, has some of these on, plus 3 good hardfloor tracks apeing the style...

Phuture come very close, but I agree with Tom. Remind me next time you're round here, Andrew, and I'll play it to you. Or I might remember to put it on a comp for you sometime.

I tried fusing this with michael jackson's "bad" vocal track, but to little avail. :(

Has anyone heard 'Desire' by Scappy & the Box Boys? i reckon that is the most demented acid house track I've heard. Other good ones are Bango Acid - Mike Wilson, Pump up Chicago - Mr Lee, Slam - Phuture (way better than Acid Trax) and Derrick Mays remix of Delites' Wild Times.

oh yeah, and Sleazy D - I've Lost Control

what about "Pfantasy Girl" by Pierre's Pfantasy Club? I always loved the contrast between the pop/r&b vocal at the beginning and then the acid that emerges behind the second chorus. The moments when the pitch is incrementally raised can be quite intense in the proper state of mind.

for non-303 acid-like house (I tend to see acid as a spirit as much as a genre based on a specific sound, having been influenced by Reynolds' Generation Ecstasy/Energy Flash), i would have to vote for blackout by li'l louis. the vocals are either hilarious or quite maningful depending on the time, place, etc. I wonder if any djs got the obvious of idea of playing this record at 11:55 pm dec 31st 1999?

'Blackout' = great.

'Where's Your Child' certainly is one of the best acid house records. Always had a soft spot for Kevin Saunderson's 'The Groove That Won't Stop' though.
