Bossa Voyage

Do we have any Japanese on ILM? I was in Japan awhile back and I heard these 2 incredible CDs (Bossa Voyage Collectin I & II - actually bought them when I got back to the States but anyway). They are like karaoke bossa nova collections by faceless unknown female singers with names like "Sonia" and "Elena", etc. Some of the singers are Japanese but not all. Aside from usual bossa numbers like One Note Samba Girl From Ipanema (of course) there are nifty versions of Manic Monday, S'wonderful, She's not There, and others. It's all great in a real easy-listening sorta way. There's a big bossa thing going in Japan, has been for some time I guess, but this is a bit less clubby than some of the other stuff I have heard. Anyway, if anyone is out there that knows about this stuff wants to chime in, please do. Maybe Momus is around? You can get the CDs at amazon.jp or tsutaya (don't work for either of course). Sounds great, are the arrangements "authentic brazilian bossa" or "tacky cover" style.

why didn't you visit the godlike label PSF and their record shop, make a pilgramage to the grave (if he has one) of masayuki takayanagi and stalk keiji kaino g?

the arrangements are kind of muzak/karaoke style

I'm not familiar with Bossa Voyage, but I think Lisa Ono is the most famous Japanese bossa nova artist. She is Japanese, born in Brazil. I think she has a very large audience in Japan, I'm not sure about the rest of the world. I first heard her music in a sake bar in NYC, but a friend of mine in the Philippines recently picked up her cd there. It's not so kitschy, more main-stream commercial Japanese bossa.
