Anti Pop Consortium split

I just heard Anti Pop Consortium, the Warp-ed trio have split. They were supposed to play a festival over here, but the website announced that they will not come, because they will stop making music together. Any comments/news on this from overseas?

there's nothing as yet on the Warp site, and they do have a new 12" coming out, so i doubt it. what's the festival website?

it's www.lowlands.nl, but it's in Dutch and also pretty hard to find the news. But they say the news came from New York. So either the festival is getting screwed or it's true... I'll call them tommorow for confirmation.

Missed that other thread, but that's enough proof for me. Thanx

I saw the Anti-pop live three times firstly 26/03/01 at the electrowerkz london (wow..history made, raw shit,my ears!oh yeah shownoteeth) In summer 2001 I saw them at the barbican London and that was pretty good a slightly weird atmosphere but they still rocked like kilamanjaro..the last time was when they had been warped! 09/11/01 this time in a transformed library in Hackney, london. ANTI-POP missing sayyid who wasn't 100% ok about flying due to septembers new york air horror-That left a stand in who did lots of cool keys,Beans and the big priest man to do all the hard work but they did good those two really showed us what for, I'll tell you- no one would believe that these hard rhyming, fire music,R.A.P heads would settle down in those easy (warped !)chairs (*see recent warp 12" & L.P>how could they think they look RIGHT and it's all so..silly) Oh well it was good while it lasted a hard(music)intelligent(lyrics/music)face in hip hop..I guess they should maybe loose the ANTI..& settle lazily into the POP..we don't need no more ANTI this ANTI that it's all a CON..( do'ya get it!) Oh let's not be too sad FLASH is back all you B- boys & girls...see him at love box (LONDON) in late sept...anti-pop R.I.P

I've liked the post-Company Flow solo projects more than Company Flow so hopefully this will work out for the best (for the listener) as well. Considering Warp's recent efforts in gaining a market share of backpacker indie hip-hop (which outsells indie rock by a mile, in the States at least), and APC being their flagship act in this regard, you gotta figure they're pissed, or at least annoyed.

J Blount, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

APC are not backpacker hiphop... call 'em avant-bling. And what the F does post-Company Flow have to do with anything?

Perhaps losing the "anti-pop" moniker is a boon, everyone seems to take it so literally.

Bob Zemko, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why bring'company flow' in on this? I don't get it.. ANTI-POP didn't fit in REALLY that was what was so amazing. they had a focus & were not relying on a 'market' whatever you choose to call it..They were artists(priest & sayyid had backgrounds in Film)rap meets poetry using hip hop as the vehicle..and the name..well a name's a name's a name..they formed in 1997 under the credo "disturb the equilibrium" & I think it did happen but now! well I did like the first 'warp' e.p "ends against the middle" but it does seem somewhat lighter than "Tragic epilogue" such tragedy!!

damo, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

as i tried to imply earlier, you should take their sloganeering with a pinch of salt. not to say they are insincere, but APC operate(d) with a great awareness of the world outside of hiphop and had enough of a sense of humour to mess around with people's taxonomy. a lot of the ire they elicited was down to people thinking that they were some sort of highfaluting elitists that hated pop and hiphop and everything else anyone liked.

Bob Zemko, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Learn to read - I was not comparing Anti-Pop and Company Flow, merely stating that since Company Flow's breakup had benefits, perhaps the same could happen with Anti-Pop.

J Blount, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i've only just got into them as well in the last 3/4 months as well - bastard.
