... or something like that. It came out in 85 or 86. It had that old- school techno feel like that song "19". Does anyone remember what the song was called?

"Al Naafiysh"

Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) by Hashim, from 1983. Released on the US Cutting label.

Sander, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's available on Rhino's "Street Jams: Electric Funk part 1". Also, it has been repressed many times so a 12" is not hard to find.

It was also on Classic Electro Mastercuts Vol 1, if you're in the UK.

was it juan atkins?

jk, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope. Hashim was the nom-de-sequencer of one Jerry Calliste Jnr.

Hashim - you also did "Primrose Path", right? were you also involved with the Nitro Deluxe releases? that was a great era on Cutting - can you recommend any other tracks on Cutting or otherwise that fans of Hashim and Nitro Deluxe might like?

the easiest place to get this is on the popular "TV Advertised" ElectroBreakdance compilation that came out on BMG/Telstar earlier this year.

i just found a 12 by high fidelity 3 called 'satisfaction' the other day... not seen to be a cutting classic but the dub side is sick! also check the productions on ccl for fantasy 3 (esp. 'the buck stops here') and uh magnificent 3 with great peso i think? 'crush' the track is called. also my total fave this tone loc b-side 'the fine line between hyper and stupid', that was hashim with some other guys though

I rarely if ever used a sequencer. Thank you for the props. I have a new full length CD coming out in June 2006. Register at Bassmintmusic.com to receive the announcement. It will be available as a CD and digital downloads. There will be some cool co-producers on the full length CD.

Ciao

Your welcome. For the record my new artists name is Hashim Music (it's also the name of my music publishing company Hashim Music/ ASCAP for 22+ years)

That was a quick reply to my post. Check out the new Discogs listing and there will always be new information on me at https://www.bassmintmusic.com/store/artist.php?artists_id=15&osCsid=03523dd4e36cbce37efe704782afceb2

In response to someone's earlier post - I co-founded Cutting Records Inc. back in 1983 with two partners and have since started a new company. Bassmint Music Inc. an online record label that signs independent artists from around the world. We have some cool features we are still developing at Bassmintmusic.com (http://www.bassmintmusic.com) but the store is functional now. You can register for FREE and buy digital downloads.

We are adding other merchandise and purchasing options like compact discs and shirts etc. in coming weeks.

FYI - Look out for hot and super gorgeous female DJ Shugga (htpp://www.djshugga.net) break-beats mix of various artists a compilation named "Antidote Underground Music v1.0" due out the end of May '06. Also available on Bassmintmusic.com.

FYI - We have a Hashim Music produced and mixed Hi Fidelity 3 "B-Boys Breakdance" Remix available right now as a download on Bassmintmusic.com. There are actually 6 new tracks (experimental stuff) we call Limited Edition Releases posted to the online store for download.

By the way - I did not work on the Nitro Deluxe tracks but I was told by Nitro that I influenced him to create music.

Tom ([email protected])

Tom you can keep that grin on your face it's really me....from the Bronx preparing to release my debut CD.

I search the web and do my home work and appreciate people who like my music. I really appreciate everyone keeping my songs alive for so many years. If it weren't for you guys Hashim Music would just be another Arabic name (by the way I'm born in the Bronx and no I am not Arab).

I just thought it would be cool to have a different name at the time.

I think I have some of this stuff on tape from the 80's (definitely remember an electro-ish "It's Time"). Interesting.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Friday, 12 May 2006 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Preparing to release his debut CD? That is something I have to hear. This track was the all time favourite of a small group of friends of mine in 1990. They introduced me to this track. They used to play it over and over with a look of wide-eyed wonder on their faces.

Just heard this track for the first (and second) time, and hell yes!

anatol_merklich, Friday, 3 July 2020 18:08 (five years ago)

me too! I liked it enough to slip into a quick mix with Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, Prince, E-40, Conway Twitty, Captain & Tennille, Flipper, Exodus, Funkadelic, and Tiffany

sounds better than it sounds
