Y'know the strings'n'techno thing that seemed so impressive when it was released years ago. Now re-released after being used in the Matrix, I'm wondering is Rob Dougen just a talentless tosser?

it's only being re-released _now_ after being in the matrix? that's a bit slow isn't it? i go for classic.

i think it might be one of the tracks on his new album. there was a thread here about a month or two about it.

It just reminds me of beer adverts, for some reason.

YEah its a track on his new album so that explains the timing and teh commercial motivation is fine. Having listened to the single this morning I'm just wondering why exactly I was so impressed at the time. Maybe the remix is shite or was it never that good in the first place?

Winkelmann, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

its just that it dated real quick, its not a bad record, but it overeggs it. try the Peshay remix which cuts down on the gloop

gareth, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the Peshay remix on the original issue or the new one? Its certainly not on the CD single I picked up, there were 2 versions in the second hand place and I didn't spot one by Peshay

Winkelmann, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

on the original. i don't know if there were 2 cds or something, my sister has it on 12", maybe it wasn't on cd?

gareth, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hated that track

Rob Dougan's debut album(released 1st July 2002) called 'FURIOUS ANGELS' is a fantastic album, and he should not be judged just because in 1995 he made a song which was only recognised through The Matrix, it is a classic, read some reviews of the album at Amazon:

Yeah I agree with Michael Wells. It is just such a fucking dud.

They used to play this all of the time at the local pool hall. It's so Hollywood... the "cinematic" beat thing everybody associates with DJ Shadow all polished up for the worse.

Is it not just 'High' by The Lighthouse Family sans vocals?

Mr Swygart, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i still think its a great track...its a shame media saturation can really affect people's attitude to a piece of music but of course its inevitable

Just listening to this (and the Peshay remix is definitely the best) and was thinking that this^^^ would be exactly ILMs take on it. Only recently found out that the piano bits are not, as I thought, a bit of Elgar.
