Johnny Gills "Just Another Lonely Night"

All I can say is Damn... This song is so smooth it burns a nuclear hole in my soul. Not a widely released or heard song. This was going up against the Juggernaut of "My My My" and "Wrap Your Body Tight"

The Whispers "Is it good to you"

Another smooth hit that should have charted on the R&B/Adult charts. This was going up against "My My My" Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison" and Mariah Carey but this one is worth listening too.

In subsequent years however these have become quiet storm hits after years of listening especially by those who didn't remember them when they first came out but now has gotten a listen to them.

On the 1989-ish R&B tip ... Not sure exactly where this landed on the charts, but it never felt as big a hit as it should've been.

squeeze could have made their song a bigger hit if the video had been more about girls dancing and less about history teachers singing.

The original video has them dancing with brooms. They shouldn't have scrapped it.

I think it was because it sounded so unlike Squeeze, for the most part, that no-one know who it was.

Most recently, I was convinced that Zero would be a Top 10 UK hit and make the Yeah Yeah Yeahs massive in the UK but it stiffed at 49, which I found inexplicable.

i think maybe 80% of my favourite music over the past half decade or so fits into this category

That Chungking track is tasty, I've not heard of them before.

Was Heroes a flop at the time or something? It's canon through and through now.

"Heroes" got to number 24. "Fame" made 17.

Babyface My Kinda Girl was a radio hit. Not necessarily a chart hit but well liked by everyone. I liked it roo, haven't heard it since the age of 11

Grapes of Wrath - You May Be Right

this one went to number 7 in Canada early 90s, but i'm fairly sure it didn't make much of an impact elsewhere.

probably could have though since it was produced by John Leckie and is a far better Beatles pastiche than most (looking at you "Sowing The Seeds of Love")
