Now playing 'round my way: Devo's 1981 LP New Traditionalists. You?

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

New "We're thru bein' cool" answers.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

DJ Hype, "Smack My Bitch Up" from Boom Selection_Issue 01. (Question: why do people insist on calling this Never Mind the Bootlegs--e.g. The Wire--when that's obviously not its title?)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Yo La Tengo doing a cover of Sun Ra's "Nuclear War". It's a motherfucker.

dave (Dave225), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice Up Dancee: The RAS Tapes Vol. 2. Great dancehall stuff; two different Tracy Chapman remakes, "Mash Up" by Sanchez & Flourgeon, "Get Flat"--it's all good. Purchased for $2.98 cash at Frugal Muse Books and Records last week.

Matt C., Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Boom Selection_Issue 01

Is that underscore really part of the title?

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

It is on the website (and I finally got confirmation that my shipment is forthcoming, yay!).

Currently listening to the final disc in the Rare Cult: The Demo Sessions box set that just came out. Hey, don't give me that look.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

The Strokes, currently on When It Started. I've been on a Strokes kick for a few days for some reason.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

It is on the website

Should I bother editing that into the review on my site? For accuracy's sake? (Great. More work.)

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

That new Autechre e.krikkrakbzzzzzzzzzz...p.

Omar, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"Money Is Not Our God" and "Age of Greed", both of EXTREMITIES DIRT & VARIOUS REPRESSED EMOTIONS by Killing Joke (who, as we speak, if I hadn't already mentioned, are back in the studio with both Raven and Youth sharing bass duties, Ted Parsons of Prong on drums -- with possibly a cameo by original drummer Big Paul Ferguson -- and Andy "Gang of Four" Gill producing. Huzzah!)

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Miss Kittin 'On the Road' packed with killa kuts.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm playing Attention, the new GusGus album. Icelandic house music. I'm definitely not through being cool.

Michaelango: there is a Never Mind the Bootlegs CD, done by Belgian mash-up duo Nid & Sancy.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Whatever pre-VMA crap Total Request Live decides to inflict on me.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Tok Tok - Day Of Mine

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Jean Michel Jarre's Equinoxe.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Miss Kittin 'On the Road' packed with killa kuts.

My man Stevo! Isn't that DJ Rush track at the start utter utter genius?

Omar, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

King Black Acid & The Womb Star Orchestra - Royal Subjects.

Soon as they finish this waltz its over to Sugar - Copper Blue.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The ostian mele/tigerbeat 6 comp 'wrong application'. It hurts! It hurts! I'm giving up. Up next: The Streets.

Lukas Bergstrom (lukas), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yes omar! 'motherf**ing bass' does serious internal damage, that almighty riff... do you like bass in your motherf***ing face? do i ever.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

My dad, on the cell, telling me how he just got laid off.

Ouch!

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yargh, that sucks. :-( What was his job?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The Jam, BBC sessions. It isn't very good.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Sales. He actually was on a sales trip when his boss called him to tell him. Quite shitty, those GE fuckers. Oh well, maybe this cloud has a silver lining.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

"Fate in a Pleasant Mood" by Sun Ra and his Myth Science Arkestra.

DeRayMi, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

that almighty riff...

[goes into old-fart mode] for awhile in 91-92 DJ-sets were nothing but that sound (okay that's the way I like to remember it ;). I feel a bit sad now. Sigh.

Omar, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

"Jukebox Dury", Ian Dury & The Blockheads's greatest "hits". (more importantly - sorry about your dad's situation, hstencil. best of luck to him.)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Best of luck to yer dad there, hstencil. Ah, big business.

It isn't very good.

Dunno, I liked it myself. I'd rather that than the new solo album. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Savath+Savalas : Folk Songs For Trains,Trees And Honey

dek1, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Screen Prints - Perfect City
Brave Captain - Raining Stones
I Am the World Trade Centre - Out of the Loop
Jane Weaver

In my knapsack for work - you guessed it Great Lakes, Masters of the Hemisphere, Thomson, Neal Casal and Sandy Salisbury.

spiffy james, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Wu-Tang Forever - I know it's not as good as 36 Chambers, but it is unfairly maligned.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

The best thing about Wu-Tang is Ole Dirty Bastard, the second, Method Man.

spiffy james, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Cody Chesnutt - "Serve This Royalty" from VA - Dublab pres. Summer. L.A. compilation with excellent beats/glitches: Prefuse 73 / Daedelus etc. This track is dark and creepy, with a spoken word rap about pimping.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Colourbox : Colourbox LP (1985)
One of the best 80s records. Without any doubt.

Panos Pileidis, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing on here at the mo, but the chorus from Kleenex/LiLiput's "Eisiger Wind" has been swivelling about in my head for a few minutes now. Probably a musicogeographical shortcut from asking a question about Chin Chin. Cripes! Someone actually just said the word "Switzerland" on the sitcom my girlfriend is watching! Synchronicity!

Ole Martin Halck (OleM), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

a dj random mix on natural bad radio. Incredible!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

He's torn "emerge" apart nicely. And now there's a female ragga MC.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

downstairs Robbie Fulks - The Best Of
upstairs Solomon Burke, downloading from EMUSIC

petfug (petfug), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Right now, "We are the Music Makers" by Aphex, off SAW 85-92. Up next, some Sparklehorse, I think.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

A compilation CD of 7" singles, mostly from the Elefant label on this particular one.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

That Sad Kitty Anime Song that Alan T. linked to a couple of months ago. It's the hit of the office today! There's Sad Kitty Music coming out of every cubicle.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

'train a comin' - steve earle, 'distemper' - the new christs, a meters compile and (ahem) LED ZEP III.

angelo (angelo), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Metal Circus, by Husker Du. Diane scared the hell out of me when I was 15.

Arthur: Anyone ever figure out who did the Sad Kitty Anime Song, and what its name was? I adore it, too.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

been listening to CBGB's and the Birth of US Punk while comuting.
it's a great compilation of 'early CBGB-related' bands containing, among others, my current favorite track: Slip Inside this House by the great 13th Floor Elevators...

willem, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

The new Atmosphere album - which i'm not sure about yet

up next - probably the last for carnation album.

n norton, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Majestic 12-E.T.2.2. taken from Melvin Moore's CD on Subliminal Records-The Story So Far, it's real disco house, except as per usual on a Subliminal mix, they've fucked about with the traditional french house breakdown parts, so it's all stop start stop start guitar riff, snare drum, bass riff stop start kettle drum and then back in with the bass. If you see what I'm saying you should be hearing skewed Stardustesque grooves.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrea Marquee, Zumbi. Brazilectronic psychedelic pop, Sao Paulo style.

Matt C., Wednesday, 28 August 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been listening to the CD version of 'Liege and Lief' by Fairport Convention quite a lot over the last few days... esp. 'Farewell, Farewell'.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

THERE AINT NO LOVE THERE AINT NO USE

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Matt C do you knew she was on the brasilian Pop Idol? She lost though

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Bob Drake - The Skull Mailbox This was one of dleone's picks on the Best of 2002 thread, and the glowing review on AMG clinched the deal for me. Creepy, fun-house atmosphere meets Andrew York-esque classical guitar and fragmented prog. Fine stuff.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

the mainstreet electrical parade by richard davies - probably the best song in ages.

spiffy james, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The new Soft Cell. It's a grower and a pleasant one. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Chupa: I had no idea. Glad she lost, though--no way would she have made such a fun messed-up record as Zumbi. Has she gone back to acting or are we going to ever get another album?

Matt C., Wednesday, 28 August 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

89.1 wnyu new afternoon show - wire presently playing

barry b, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)
