These are FULL productions by the way; he produced tracks for Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, and Diana Ross.

Nile has Nard being a bit of a mess just prior to this era, it's a decent workload considering.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

didn't know about Air Supply.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

Air Supply is good it's listed twice

Euler, Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

Slightly less impressive workload, then.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

he loved it so much he recorded it twice

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

He only produced a couple of tracks on Alphabet City if I recall correctly.

mr.raffles, Thursday, 18 April 2013 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

i'll just assume Nona Hendryx is the least reprehensible thing here and leave it at that

Sarushima baby jive (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 18 April 2013 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

Def "Smokey" and "Night You Murdered Love." Also "Chicago" And "Minneapolis" b-sides. The rest was produced by Fry/White.

There's a blurb about it in (I think) the Easlea Chic book.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

screen scraper (m coleman), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 09:36 (thirteen years ago)

The Nona album isn't super good, but that's mostly because the songwriting is pretty mediocre, the sound on it is nice.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 10:08 (thirteen years ago)

agreed her early 80s albums are better

screen scraper (m coleman), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 10:49 (thirteen years ago)

The right chic died

Oh come on -- we all thought it when we looked at those options.

At any rate; I love 'Nard and every time I go on a Chic binge bemoan the fact that he never made it to the Aughts to do a proper reunion with Nile, post rediscovery. Given how relevant Nile is right now, does anyone think that would've been anything other than incredible?

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

Chic were already being "rediscovered" at the time Bernard died.

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

Yes and no -- I don't know Chic-ism very well but if memory serves he died on a tour in Japan with the reunited Chic. I feel like it wasn't exactly in full swing yet.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

It doesn't really have anything to do with Chic-ism

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Oh come on -- we all thought it when we looked at those options.

Not true. Speak for yourself.

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

You think Nile should've died? That's pretty cold.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:24 (thirteen years ago)

What are you smoking? Because it is just making you say things that don't make sense. You're the only one here focussed on death. The rest of us are just talking music production.

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

I wish no one in Chic had died. Okay?

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

Jeez, you'd think the dude died last week not 17 years ago (this week, actually).

Semi-related topic: sometime around Let's Dance, I think, Tony Thompson's drum sound on Chic productions went from being a disco sound to a more gated whomping sound. You hear through Believer and Power Station, IIRC.

It became a pretty signature sound -- pretty different from what Chic (and Thompson) were known for and one that for some reason I tend to associate less with Nile for some reason. Not sure if there's any reason behind it.

Anyway, that's what I think of when I think of 'Nard productions.

That and that fact that most of those records suck.

And that he's dead.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 25 April 2013 00:01 (thirteen years ago)

Wow. Those Hendryx records were rereleased last year, and Nona was a revelation. But xhuxk's comments made The Heat sound most unattractive.
