sleepingbag, Monday, 22 April 2013 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

i saw them open for lower dens last year, which is why i <3 <3 <3 them and/or know of them at all. they were incredible.

sleepingbag, Monday, 22 April 2013 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

new album out 23 April, better than the debut.

Funny, they are sort of in the same aura as Joy Formidable but not as poppy.

And they make me miss Joy Zipper, whom I think will never return.

Too much joys!

I was obsessed with the Hawaii video

So tempted to put 'Hare Tarot Lies' on repeat... fucking great song.

I've said it before elsewhere but there's a lot of revival shoegazer stuff out right now. This song is tremendous.

I will forlornly return to my home planet soon (dandydonweiner), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

Aggh they're playing here tonight but I'm not going because I always cave in and go to the shows my friends want to go to instead of seeing what I wanna see

sleepingbag, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 01:54 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I've noticed there's a lot of revival shoegazer stuff kicking around at the moment, some of it undoubtedly better than others... I definitely think this album is one of the better ones!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

Heard this the other day, pretty nice.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

Keep finding myself coming back to this album... the opening three: 'E', 'Hare Tarot Lies' and 'Prodigy' are especially fucking great.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 11 May 2013 04:14 (thirteen years ago)

yeah there's enough variety in their songs that not only do they not fit in with a lot of those other shoegazer revivalist bands, but their songs are actually memorable too.

borntohula, Saturday, 11 May 2013 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

'Lunar Phobia' is another one that seems to be popping up in my head regularly, too... yeah, there's definitely hooks on this thing, there's no doubt about it!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 11 May 2013 16:54 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I've definitely fallen in love with this record now... I am absolutely certain I'm going to vote for this when the time comes for the EOY poll.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 24 May 2013 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

seven months pass...

Enjoying the heck out of this album. Voted for one of the songs on the tracks poll, but more of them are growing on me. Didn't include in my albums ballot though.

Which track did you vote for? I did vote for the album, btw!

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:11 (twelve years ago)

Great band, great album. Voted for it in tracks but the album got pushed off the bottom of my ballot.

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:13 (twelve years ago)

Xp: blue neck riviera

how's life, Thursday, 23 January 2014 22:37 (twelve years ago)

I hate "Blue Neck Riviera" and wish they hadn't included it on the album. The last thing I need is more sub-Gang Gang Dance mumbling for stringy-haired MDMA hipster kids. What I do need is more songs like "Lizard Kids," which sounds somewhere between Isn't Anything-era MBV and SST records or a band from Chicago from the 80s or 90s.

fields of salmon, Friday, 24 January 2014 15:27 (twelve years ago)

Geez, I don't know much "sub-Gang Gang Dance mumbling for stringy-haired MDMA hipster kids". I just thought it was sorta a shoegazey Cure thing. Sheesh.

how's life, Friday, 24 January 2014 15:36 (twelve years ago)

I like 'Blue Neck Riviera' just fine, although I like every track on this album.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Friday, 24 January 2014 15:42 (twelve years ago)

Should probably just clarify at this point how much I love this album overall.

fields of salmon, Friday, 24 January 2014 15:51 (twelve years ago)

i had no idea what the hell you guys were talking about until i realised the track you're talking about is called 'mercury in retrograde' on my version

hacka's f5 key (electricsound), Friday, 24 January 2014 22:34 (twelve years ago)

The 3-song EP Pastel and Pass Out released in November is worth a listen. It doesn't have anything quite on par with "Hare Tarot Lies" or "Lunar Phobia", but "Starchild is Dead" is a great floating mass of well-produced noise, drifting pilotless towards the rocks.

disposable soma (Sanpaku), Saturday, 25 January 2014 05:04 (twelve years ago)

four years pass...

Wasn't really familiar with this band until I heard the "No Joy / Sonic Boom" EP. "Obsession" is fantastic and the other 3 tracks are interesting if not at the same level.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 29 March 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

Love this band. I hope they release a new full length record soon.

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 29 March 2018 13:56 (eight years ago)

Listening to the Obsession EP now. It's interesting, albeit a complete departure from their normal sound.
