Title track is a great Roy Wood rocker but Words of Aaron is epic proto-ELO oh DECISIONS

This is such a great record for what was, apparently, a contractual obligation! Voted "Until Your Momma's Gone," cause it's always going through my head. But it's all-over awesome. CD version has a bunch of cool bonus tracks ("California Man"!) and session stuff.

I love this album, and seem to remember that it's almost 100% solid although just from the song titles the only songs I can remember offhand are "it wasn't my idea to dance" (killer) and "ben crawley steel company" (always skip that one. maybe the only stinker on it?).

Oh yeah, I don't really need Don't Mess Me Up or My Marge either. The rest are all killer. I think "It Wasn't My Idea to Dance" is my favorite. Almost sounds like they're trying to do something Sabbathy but with the weird renaissance/moroccan sounding shawms or whatever they are (probably bagpipes, but I'm going to pretend they're not).

Yeah, that song is like a doomier version of Turkish Tram Conductor from Looking On. Awesome. I do like Ben Crawley, but My Marge is just the kind of old-timey thing I hated on British records from 68-72 or so.

"Don't Mess Me Up" (Bevan)

There's a heck of a lot of Move/Wizzard odd tracks and b-sides that are awesome, by members of the band that never wrote songs/music before or since.

Unless it's Roy Wood's idea of a testimonial...

"Ella James" is my favorite here

Actuall, this is the only Move album I haven't got.

You should get it, it's great fun.

I got Wizzard's Brew recently, though, and I don't know if it's the original recording or a bad remaster but it's really hard to listen to. You kind of have to crank the treble way up to keep it from sounding like it was recorded in a tin shed. Might be that they used phasing and slapback echo on EVERYTHING...

oh wizzards brew is BADASS, overdriven, overprocessed as hell. But it's the early 70s, so overprocessed means "whoaa wtf awesome"

( (brimstead), Saturday, 3 August 2013 04:12 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, once the treble is audible I love the sound, it's like the heavier side of later Move stuff but just running wild. Two guys on baritone sax, two drummers, right?
