Never mind John vs Paul - what about RINGO?

Come on - one killer single per year for three years ('71-'73), and then yes admittedly it all goes a bit floppy until his triumphant reassertion with 1981's epochal "Wrack My Brain," clearly the best single ever made in that year apart from the other ones.

"how old's ringo?/count his rings" - the axemen

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 10:15 (twenty-three years ago)

"it don't come easy", "back off boogaloo", those'd be 2 of em right? yes those are great, what's the other one tho?

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 10:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Video for Wrack My Brain=classic. Ringo and his wife and assorted others running around a haunted house in classic horror movie getup...wonderfully silly.

mms (mms), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 10:47 (twenty-three years ago)

"Photograph" (1973) is the third one.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Just reminded of this headline from 1978:
"John Paul named Pope. George Ringo miffed."

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah "photograph"! thats real good too.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

CVB did a great cover of "Photograph."

TMFTML (TMFTML), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

if you've never heard this record, or at least picked it up and wondered why then you're really missing out...

I'll stand up for Ringo too - anyone who can cover a Posies song is cool with me. And he is (still) a superb drummer. So there.

four years pass...

New comp – his first since Blast From the Past! His catalogue available on iTunes!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

One of the most underrated drummers ever, for sure.

Jazzbo, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

A great drummer (even though George Martin still disagrees to this day), but obviously a minor player when compared to the three songwriting geniuses he was in a band with.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

I think Ringo records are best experienced as a "prime wallow," as Meltzer might say. By which I mean that one day you buy yourself dollar copies of Sentimental Journey, the Atlantic albums, and Stop and Smell the Roses. If you're a real nut, you get yourself a copy of the album he did with Joe Walsh in '82 or so that was only released in Canada or something!

Tim Ellison, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

I would say "Ringo" does it for me.

four months pass...

So what you reckon, Ringo's "Liverpool 8" single inthe chart? It's been around the news re the city of culture.

Mark G, Sunday, 13 January 2008 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

actually just listening to an album he did with Cat Stevens... not sure how official (or good) it is. Anyone know about this?

Saxby D. Elder, Sunday, 13 January 2008 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

Back in the day or recently?

(guess no chart entry for teh rings!)

Mark G, Monday, 14 January 2008 08:55 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't realize he was my favorite Beatle until watching that Mayles Bros film and the Anthology series last year: He was always easily the coolest Beatle on camera, funnier than the others, better-looking than advertised, the best dressed in retrospect, game but not flip, ironic but not surly or withdrawn, a good dancer, intelligent, and an amazing drummer under conditions most drummers can only imagine. Critics sold him way short, and that's to say nothing of any of this solo stuff, which I haven't heard.

Pete Scholtes, Monday, 14 January 2008 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

He was cringingly awful on that televised "Liverpool, City of Culture" opening bash...

mike t-diva, Monday, 14 January 2008 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

That entire thing was just a parade of "for FUCK'S SAKE, LIVERPOOL"

That mong guy that's shit, Monday, 14 January 2008 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

"Liverpool, I left you 'cos I was stinking rich and didn't want to pay income tax to support your faltering social infrastructure but Thomas The Tank Engine royalties don't last forever so I remembered not to forget you."

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 14 January 2008 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

That doesn't scan.

onimo, Monday, 14 January 2008 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

Any irregularities of scansion will be ironed out on the recorded version, with gaps covered by timely interjections of "Oho!" from special guest backing vocalist Jimmy Tarbuck.

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 14 January 2008 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

or unspecial backing vocalist, Dave (not "as in Barabara Gaskin") Stewart.

Mark G, Monday, 14 January 2008 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

What does David A Stewart make of Sunderland's sundering of reckless Redknapp yesterday afternoon?

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 14 January 2008 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

He'll cry if he wants to.

Mark G, Monday, 14 January 2008 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

It's interesting that he's considered the most harmless/most "lovable" Beatle, considering he grew up in the worst neighborhoods. He probably could have easily taken Lennon's ass in a fight.

mike a, Monday, 14 January 2008 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

"Photograph" is SO great.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 14 January 2008 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

First Beatle to 70.

Never knew he was the oldest Beatle, even if not by very much.
