Scott Walker on Jools Holland

I never saw the broadcast myself, and have heard bad things about the performance. Anyone here see it?

It was gripping stuff. Just "Rosary" off Tilt, Scott accompanying himself on scratchy electric. Recorded separately from the rest of the show (possibly sans audience), exposed by his absence from the opening boogiewoogie bollocks/closing farewells (though, not knowing the circumstances of his appearance at the time, I just took to be him being Moody and Enigmatic).

I wish I had it on tape.

Pardon my ignorance, but what circumstances ?

(The performance was unforgettable, btw, and by a mile the most substantial three minutes of Later.. there has ever been.)

Was this at da time of tilt or more recent?

By circumstances, I just meant that he wasn't there for the actual recording of the show - his spot was taped at another time and dropped in. I didn't realise this at the time (it was edited and presented in such a way as to obscure this), so thought his non-appearance at beginning and end was Scott refusing to the play the game (i.e. he was still somewhere in the studio complex, loitering anxiously).

It was first shown in late '95 - perhaps repeated in the spring of '96? Doesn't turn up on any 'Best of Later with...' comps though.

two years pass...
If you register at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/scott_walker/ and then go into "files", you can download an mp3 of this. Very spooky stuff indeed.

I'm sure I can remember him being there at the start of the show when everyone was being introduced though he certainly wasn't there at the end. I may well have this on video somewhere as I used to tape Jools every week but probably haven't seen it since it was broadcast so my memory is probably shaky.

It was hilarious, funny as fuck.

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 24 February 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Especially the wee tap dance he did at the end.

I'm not being my usual sarky self, my old flatmate taped it and we used be in stitches watching it.

I'll definitely have to dig that old video out

He looks so fucking fierce as much as anything. And a bit Jandek.

So good.

Holy shitsky... If there's one artist I'd pay $$$ to see live, it's Scott.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 6 April 2012 19:35 (fourteen years ago)

I think that supervised 'various artists perform the music of' London concert from a few years ago is the closest any of us will ever get (wish I could have been there)
