This is the thread where you post insightful comments friends/acquaintances of yours have made about popular music which say more than a whole shedload of ILM threads ever could, and these people don't even have their own blog/small column in a locally distributed music paper/opinion on indie guilt.

My flatmate Daniel on The Streets: "He can't rap, and his beats are shit. What else is there meant to be?"

I get all my mates to do the focus group anyway so this never happens to me. People who don't write/think much about pop are completely ace for recommending things though.

i seem to take no-one's opinion on music seriously unless they obssess about it on a level thats at least on par with my own, which is only intermediate in itself really....oh dear...

At least you''ll look hip carrying that copy around... ;-)

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

hah - in Glasgow in the late '70s, carrying a copy of "Spiritual Unity" under one's arm was not a hip thing for a lad to do, take my word for it! (not to mention all the Sun Ra Impulse cutouts with gatefold hand-coloured sleeves I got out of Listen Records in Renfield Street at 49p a throw round about that time)

bah marcello and now everyone wants them ('everyone' actually 'me').

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

"So what is it you actually do at these meetups--argue about the threads in person?"

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 13 October 2002 06:07 (twenty-three years ago)

"someday, when you have a kid, you will be able to put them to sleep with all this slow boring music you listen to." a friend re: slowcore.
