I finally got around to listening to Murray Street - the first half was fine & then they got into the long dirging(?) guitar wankery .. and I said, "well, it wouldn't be a Sonic Youth record without them throwing in ten minutes of dickin' around on the guitar.."

So - carry on the theme:
"It wouldn't be ___ without ____."

... a Suede record without lyrical references to one or more of poison, nuclear, you and me (or me and you), and that throaty thing he does in the middle of words (you know what that is).

Darren, Friday, 11 October 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

...a Kevin Rowland record without a crazed self-justifying confessional moment.

(unless it was the theme to 'brush strokes')

adam b (adam b), Friday, 11 October 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 October 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

that should've been HitCHcock, of course.

Sawtooth Eddie (Semicogent), Friday, 11 October 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

It wouldn't be New Order or Electronic or Barney Sumner without dumb lyrics. Except Movement but the ghost of Ian Curtis is responsible for that I guess.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Friday, 11 October 2002 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

And it wouldn't be Sigur Ros without that damned whale whistling.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Friday, 11 October 2002 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

...it wouldn't be the Cocteau Twins without washes of dreamy guitar dithering and paragraphs of patented Fraser-gibberish.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 October 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

It wouldnt be a Nikki Sudden song without someone wearing a black velvet jacket at some point.

Review of a post-"Loser" Beck album / Mention of how he's proved himself to not really be a "Loser" at all! Oh ho ho!

an emo or pop-punk song with the word "relationship" somewhere in the lyrics

Aaron W, Saturday, 12 October 2002 03:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 12 October 2002 04:11 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
.. Kitchens of Distinction song without a reverb-y guitar solo at the end.. Although, I could listen to an endless loop of that.

It wouldn't be a Dylan album without a song about a mean, nasty woman who done him wrong.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 10 May 2003 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Psychedelic Furs without stupid use of the word 'stupid'
