New solo album from Verve frontman. Reviews are bashing it. I was not impressed with "alone with everybody". Hoping this isn't as bad as I've been reading. Anyone here any of it yet? Just get the verve back together already...

The new single is staggeringly poor!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

What is Nick McCabe up to these days?

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

except for that little string-fuelled middle eighth, where it actually does something verging on interesting for 30 seconds before crash-landing back in ashcroft's boring muddle of c, am, em, f and g and chords (vary order at will)

ashcroft made interesting comments to zane lowe regarding the new single and its comparison to 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' with Lowe suggesting the looped strings on both constitute the equivalent of hip hop breaks and that ashcroft should be working with the Neptunes - to which i think Ashcroft replied he actually was or was planning to, like everyone it seems. this reminded me of how Ian Brown also likes to align himself with hip hop in some way - i think its a little curious they do this and i'm not sure there's much in it but as for 'check the meaning' itself i dont think its 'staggeringly poor' unless you consider all M.O.R./dadrock to be that - its a fairly decent if pedestrian modern representation of the genre at least...i like the strings

Is the new single so bad it is amusing (a la Primal Scream), or is it just plain bad?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i also liked the new Paul Weller single...(sighs)

blueski, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't think of anything I'd like to hear less.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The Will Young album, perhaps, Dr C? ;-)

What is Nick McCabe up to these days?

PRobably have a good chuckle. I can't remember what the Top Of The Pops presenter said exactly but I do remember laughing hysterically after she said he was brilliant.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I'd rather hear W.Young!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I've not heart it. Is Kate Radley on it?

kate, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't know, but she is on the cover!

(superimposed into an image of his head. he thinks about her all the time do you see)

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

That cover sounds hilarious.

I've not heart it.

Best typo of the day, because I'm already guessing I would not heart it either.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know why he's dicking round with the Neptunes trying to sound hip. He should just go the route he's destined for and make an easy listening, Bing Crosby style record.

I'll even buy him a cravat.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe i imagined the Neptunes thing...i know they're workin with Blur tho (shudder)

blueski, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I kind of like the new song. As far as the one "Bright Lights" or whatever its called, it suxor.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 17 October 2002 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe i imagined the Neptunes thing...i know they're workin with Blur tho (shudder)

Wh-wh-whut?!?!

I would have hoped that the Neptunes had better sense (and taste) than to cater to the whims of trend-chasing whore like Hair Transplant Albarn.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 17 October 2002 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

My dear Nicole, remember the curse of Gorillaz. From there Mr. Albarn now thinks he is down with the hip-hop aristocracy, and therefore madness and hell results. YOUR HEROES WILL ALWAYS HAVE FEET OF CLAY! Next step for the Neptunes is, of course, working with Billy Joel.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 October 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The Neptunes are plainly complete tarts which is one of the reasons they're good anyway.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 October 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

True enough. I like the idea of them laughing constantly at a fair number of the people they work with once said people realize that they need the Neptunes or else they're sunk. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

why are you so obsessed with damon albarn's hair?

g (graysonlane), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

alone with everybody pretty much sukked
