The new one, the old one, both, or neither?

Haven't heard the new one yet, but def. start with Pirate's Choice...it's still worthwhile no matter how good the new one is, and it's considered the classick.

Digression: if you go and see them live, is it the same people who did 'Pirate's Choice'? They are coming soon.

yes it is the same people. v. good live, v. debonair elegnat stage show and beautiful music.
Pirate's Choice is a great starting point.

They were one of the best bands I've seen this year, and it was free and outdoors! Youssou N'Dour helped reunite them, apparently:

I liked the compilation A Night at Club Baobab which is based on tehir 70s output. Had been looking for the belle Epoque material then found out that this was also from the same era. I think belle Epoque was getting pretty pricey and this turned up on Amazon marketplace cheaply.

Seem to be 2 or 3 main eras, they were around bamako in the 70s around teh same time as Les Ambassadeurs and the rail Band were innovating, then got rediscovered at the end of teh 90s/ early 00ies when Pirate's choice came out.
NPot sure to what extent they had changed between the 2. I think that Pirate's choice set is pretty good from what i remember.
