what about Eagles v Moby?
funny haha shitty Americans!

Keith McD (Keith McD), Thursday, 17 October 2002 09:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i vote for air supply because elevator music wouldn't been the same if not for their legacy. btw, they were far more popular in the states than they were in australia, dave, so what does that tell you?

angelo (angelo), Thursday, 17 October 2002 10:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh, "Happy Anniversary, Baby" - totally beats anything Air Supply ever did. "Lonesome Loser" sucks.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 17 October 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

In my callow youth I had the Air Supply greatest hits album. Still can sing most of the hits too. "I'm all out of LOVE!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Little River Band by a mile

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

So did I, Ned. I bought it after someone told me (probably Casey Kasem on the radio) that Air Supply had written "Total Eclipse of the Heart" - they have a song that sounds exactly like it but I can't remember it anymore

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 17 October 2002 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Figure it out, cuz it's buggin me now.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 17 October 2002 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm guessing it was "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" because Jim Steinman wrote both of them. (I hate Jim Steinman)

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 17 October 2002 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

REMINISCING jeezus is there any question?

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 17 October 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

you have made Gino Vannelli a very sad man, Mr. Dave Q. You are a bad man!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 October 2002 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

At least Air Supply didn't lose the rights to their OWN BAND NAME. LRB are total losers.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 18 October 2002 04:31 (twenty-three years ago)

to the guy who wrote "I hate Jim Steinman": have you heard his solo album? He has a great song about smashing his guitar on his sleeping parents' bed. Check it out and you'll be a convert.

TJ, Friday, 18 October 2002 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

you'll be a convert.

Based on what? Why would you think I'd be interested? I've heard Meatloaf, Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler and "That's When Rock & Roll Dreams Come True" ... all duds. If he ever did something better, you'd think it would have been on radio, as opposed to all his other crap that was.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 18 October 2002 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ugh. I've heard that guitar-smashing song (actually a spoken word piece). Not only won't it "convert" anyone, but it really deserves to appear on those "worst records ever" type of compilations. "[indignant] Goddammit, Daddy! [pleading] You know I love you. [rising to a righteous crescendo] BUT YOU'VE GOT A HELL OF A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT ROCK 'N ROLLLL!"

Mike Appelstein (mike a), Friday, 18 October 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god that sounds awesome.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 18 October 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, it's bad in a hilarious way.

Mike Appelstein (mike a), Friday, 18 October 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
I just got an email saying "Please DON'T make fun of Air Supply. They are my favorite band." Anyone else get one?

dave q, Thursday, 18 September 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Air Supply for the falsetto voices. LRB were dull as dishwater and really ruined Countdown for me, appearing every other week on this Australian equivalent of Top of the Pops when I was twelve. I can still sing some of those Air Supply songs - most of their titles had the word 'love' in them, seemingly.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 18 September 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

LRB never did anything close to "Lost in Love." Plus, "All Out of Love"! And I love that one of the guys' first name is "Russell" and the other guy's last name is "Russell." They've got the whole Russell thing covered.

"Reminiscing" is nice, though.

J (Jay), Friday, 19 September 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Reminiscing is nice.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 19 September 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

This is a hard question.
