Books; I dunno, books are stupid. I read a really good bunch of books but not one of them was published this year. Bye bye books!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Records;
The Fall "The Real New Fall Lp (Formerly Country on the Click)"
OutKast "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"
Wire "PF456REDUX"
Cat Power "You Are Free"
Strokes "Room on Fire"
Kraftwerk "Tour De France Soundtracks"
Neptunes "Present 'Clones'"
Neil Michael Hagerty "The Howling Hex"
Killer Mike "Monster"
LFO "Sheath"

I don't actually know a few of these too well, believe it or not, but they're all pretty fucking great. I should get that Jay-Z record soon too.

MOVIES! The best was "American Splendour", easy. Second place tie between "Freddy vs. Jason" and "Freaky Friday".

2003 was the best year i'd had since, oh, 1988.

i'll post my top ten records on my journal before long, i'm still mulling over a couple of choices.

i'm still busy catching up on pre-2003 cinema (haha) but i saw pirates of the caribbean the other week and it was good!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah pirates... and kill bill were my favourite movies of 2003.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i read no books whatsoever in 2003. i can't even remember seeing that many films either. i think i was too depressed to do anything but drink booze and remaster vinyl in a frustrated sort of way

2003 was my worst year since, oooh, 1994 or thereabouts.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

2003 was kind of varied for me, it wasn't a total waste though I guess. My best year was from the middle of 2001 to the middle of 2002.

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Novels from 2003:
"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by J.K. Rowling and "Any Human Heart" by William Boyd I liked a lot.
"Platform" by Michel Houellebecq and "Vernon God Little" by DBC Pierre I didn't like very much.

Records that haven't been mentioned so far:
Gillian Welch - "Soul Journey"
Scribe - "The Crusader"
Dizzee Rascal - "Boy In Da Corner"
The Mountain Goats - "Tallahassee"
Bone Crusher - "Attenchun!"

I think "Spider" was probably the best 2003 movie I saw last year.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Harry Potter! Yeah there's a good book I read from this year, thanks. This thread should include downloads or things you heard on the radio or whatever, I should think of what singles I liked (aside from the obvious ones)

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd award honourable mention to The Gossip - "Movement" and T.Raumschmiere - "Radio Blackout", too. I'm not sure about Missy Elliott.

MOVIES
A trio of great horror movies: Cabin Fever, 28 Days Later, and My Little Eye.
"Venus Boyz" (drag king doco)
was quite fond of "Spellbound" the american spelling bee doco
The film I liked with Harvey Pekar in it much more than A Splendor was "Vinyl" by ALan Zweig.
The old movie I re-watched in 2003 that I liked best was "Vigil" even though I really don't like any of Vincent Ward's subseuent films that I've seen.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 16 January 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

again with the splatter, I enjoyed Battle Royale. Great splatter-year for me.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 16 January 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

You shoulda seen Freddy vs Jason!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 16 January 2004 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My Queens of the Stoneage record says it's from 2003 but I don't believe it

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Johnny Cash - "American IV" shows up on a lot of people's lists, but mine sez it was made in 2002. Wassup with THAT???
