5 dvds you'd hate anyone to know you have

Everybody's got some bad ones: You bought a movie you'd never heard of and found out why when you played it, your wife bought it, your kid bought it, you walked through Best Buy on acid, whatever. Everybody's got some titles in their DVD collection they'd rather not let anyone see, and would throw away swiftly if the opportunity ever presented itself. Here are five of mine:

1) Once Upon a Time In The West: I'd never heard of this film, and the box sure looked good. Sergio Leone, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards, Charles Bronson... Wow ! The regret I felt after watching this movie was staggering.

2) Steve-O: Out on Bail: My brother bought this. He liked Jackass and figured it was more of the same... BZZZZT ! Wrong ! Not that Jackass was all that, but JESUS CHRIST this is just one continuous gross-out... avoid at all costs !

3) Fritz the Cat: I also got this one blind, having never seen it before nor read any reviews on it. Ralph Bakshi sure churned out some turds.

4) Alien-Resurrection: This movie came as part of the 4-movie collectors edition, and I'd never seen it. God, what an abortion.

5) Kung Pow-Enter the Fist: My brother bought this one too, and actually I found it amusing. I'll shove it deep in the closet if
Roger Ebert ever drops by, but it was funny.

OK, how about the rest of you ?

Once Upon A Time In The West is an amazing film! I can't believe anybody would regret owning it!! To answer the topic, let's see...

Braveheart, Gladiator, Airplane 2. But in my defense, Braveheart was given to me and Gladitor I bought as a gift.

The only pron I have is Radley Metzger and he's ace, so I don't feel too bad about that. On the other hand, I'm not sure why I felt the urge to buy the Full Moon almost-softcore trash other than that it was sort of gay.

The Fast And The Furious which I purchased as half of a 2-pack at BestBuy for $9.99 with the Scarface Special Edition. The Scarface Special Edition by itself retails for $19.99 at the very same Best Buy. I will be selling the TF&TF tonight at Amoeba along with my first edition Battle Of The Planets episodes 1-6 (although I'm keeping the trading cards).

one month passes...
Once Upon A Time In The West is a GREAT movie!! I think it's totally underappreciated.

As far as my DVD's o' shame, I really have only two;

Lifeforce (bought for $9.99 - couldn't resist the cheesyness)
A New England Patriots Superbowl Champions DVD (pure self-indulgence)

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

where can you buy cocksucker blues? I thought there was some weird restriction on seeing that? Legal stuff with the Stones not allowing it or something.

Ebay. They're nearly unwatchable copy of a copy of a copy of a copy bootlegs, but they're there.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Monday, 1 March 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

there's no shame in having Kevin Smith movies in your collection...as long as it's not the jay and silent bob movie.

i think the bad rap kevin smith gets comes from people taking him too seriously as a filmmaker (along with every overweight alterna-dork kid in film school emulating his style). if his films hadn't become so wildly popular, they'd still be pretentiously clever little indie flicks.

as for the dvd's in my collection i'd hate anyone to know about---i'd have to say the one's i bootlegged from video rentals. at least i don't want the FBI to know about them....

todd--nice collection. i probably own about 60% of what was on your list, and i'd like to pick up most of what was left over. can't really see anything on there to be too ashamed of.
