The Great Escape on the big screen, in a new restored print. Do not pass this up!

Milo OTM about The Great Escape. "Good luck." "Thank You." Ooops.

Smile is great.

Wings of Desire - beautiful.

don't see Wings of Desire it sucks so bad!

ryan (ryan), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i heard that wings of desire was kinda good with a kinda pathetic ending, but who knows.

it never interested me enough to watch it.

todd swiss (eliti), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

there are so many beautiful scenes in wings of desire that they excuse bad endings, random nick cave performances, and whatever else. the fly-over shots of berlin, the slow, tracking shots through the library - these are some of the prettiest scenes in any movie i've seen. it's not my favorite wenders film, but it's really worth seeing on the big screen.

on a related note: kings of the road, alice in the cities, goalie, etc. - are they ever going to find their way onto dvd?

a spectator bird (a spectator bird), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

They better release Kings of the Road soon or I must have to bust some heads.

Anthony (Anthony F), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw the restored print of the great escape last night - fantastic.
i still can't believe they all die in the end, though! i thought in the restored print maybe they could somehow sneak away...

two weeks pass...

I was looking at Film Comment the other day, and it was mentioned that as part of MGM's bailout deal with Spyglass Entertainment, they will be shuttering their repertory distribution arm. So in other words, goodbye to midnite shows and film series like the one I started this thread about. That news, coupled with other tidbits related about other studios current means of dealing w/their own 35 mm archives, made me throw up in my mouth a little.
