for the record: i thought Allegro non Troppo was ok but kind of boring, and Akira was kind of goofy. (both seen a long time ago so if you want try to change my mind).

what's out there? i want to be blown away!

Does stop motion count or does it have to be cell?

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The Iron Giant
Shrek
The Wings of Honneamise
Memories
Ice Age
Heaven and Earth Magic
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (I guess this counts)
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Chinese Ghost Story (the animated flick, not the live-action one of the same name)

I'm listing feature films only, obviously. Short films would be a whole different story.

belleville rendez-vous, obv.

I've always been a fan of Norman McLaren, Oskar Fischinger, and Harry Smith. Jan Svenkmajer (sp.?) and The Brothers Quay are also tremendous. Just happened upon David Lynch's early animated works which are great as well.

Some of my favorite animation lately is motion graphics work by Gmunk, Shilo, MK12, Traktor, Shynola, etc.

Iron Giant OTM.

Also, a bit of a forgotten classic: The Secret of NIMH. The scene where she meets the owl for the first time is genuinely scary.

i wish there was an american release of Le Roi et L’Oiseau(mentioned above). i would like to see it.

a spectator bird (a spectator bird), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

I absolutely love "Twice Upon a Time". Irish TV used to show it at Christmas time for a few years, so I had no idea it was actually so obscure.
