Hi all--
Many folks, including myself, have noticed that the numbers of posters here lately has dwindled quite a bit from a few months ago. There used to be a lot of passionate, lively film discussion, and that seems to have all but disappeared.
I noticed that a lot of the film-related posts have been going to ILE, many of them started by folks who formerly posted a lot of this forum. My own personal issues about ILE aside, the main problem I have with ILE posting of film related questions is that it is such a HUGE board. It becomes a catch-22--while it adds to the number of voices in the debate, it also makes finding film related posts a chore in with the "everything" posts. And the folks on ILE tend to send a film post on non-film related tangents. Don't get me wrong--tangents are fine, and these are the "everything" folks, so it would be wrong to expect them to focus on one thing only. But I've noticed the ettiquette is completely different.
At ILF, the film discussions have been passionate, intelligent and serious, from all points of view. The tendency for smart-ass comments, two word posts, and endless picture posts are far less than at ILE (although the recent Lynch post was excellent, and I wish it would have taken place over here).
So, ILF'ers and ILE'ers, I implore you: please post your film comments here. And for the folks who are posting on ILE who used to post here, let's start a discussion about why you decided to do this, and maybe we can find a solution.
It would be a shame to have such a strong film forum dwindle away to nothing. It's a blessing to have an independent thread, and I hope we can take full advantage of it.

I almost started my last thread at ILE, but I've decided to stick with the film geeks exclusively. I basically feel the same way you do.

I appreciate that Anthony, and I'm sure everyone else here does too. For those of us who post on ILE as well, it might be good to try to get others to do the same whenever film discussions come up.
Also, please don't get me wrong about ILE. I'm not trying to start some kind of rivalry here by referring to ILE posters as "smart-asses"; I post there myself, and that's part of the fun of ILE--you can go on tangents & goof off. I just think of ILF as a place to go when I'm in need of some more "scholarly" debate among peers with a passionate interest in film.
Hopefully we can get this site jumpstarted again!

Yeah, that's fine Ryan. I don't participate in every posting; only the ones I feel I have something to contribute too. I just want the posts about film originating in ILF and not ILE.
The best thing you can do is when an film thread starts at ILE, try to move it early on over to ILF.

I don't have time to come here often, but I do look at it once in a while. That's a shame. I wonder why that is - maybe it's a perceptual thing.
