The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 20 November 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The Santa Clause

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Saturday, 20 November 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Toy Story, obv.

Wooden (Wooden), Saturday, 20 November 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Galaxy Quest wasn't too bad.

Girolamo Savonarola, Saturday, 20 November 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Toy Story II if it's a Toy Story, surely.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 20 November 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Both are great, though. So that's two good movies.

Wooden (Wooden), Saturday, 20 November 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon, you know you love Jungle 2 Jungle.

Anthony (Anthony F), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if I count a voice-over as a "Tim Allen movie". But that's just me.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Saturday, 20 November 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It's "Galaxy Quest" (which comes out on DVD next week)!

Admittedly the movie is mostly carried by Tony Shaloub and Sigourney Weaver but still, Tim Allen doesn't come across as himself in it (making it probably his best performance ever).

(I've never seen either "Toy Story" because the Hanks-Allen 1-2 combination makes my testicles shrivel.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 21 November 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I completely support the last sentence.

Girolamo Savonarola, Sunday, 21 November 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

And yet TS2 at least wasn't all that bad at all.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 21 November 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe they cast Tom Hanks as the narrator for "The Polar Express". They should have kept Liam Neeson (who did the fantastic audiobook reading).

And further Hanks bashing--apparently he's supposed to play the lead in the Ron Howard-directed film version of "The DaVinci Code".

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Sunday, 21 November 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

re: galaxy quest, I must disagree -- Tim Allen came across as
totally Tim Allenesque which in itself makes for a Shatneresque
burlesque. in contrast, tom hanks turned 180 deg. for a very
nuanced slimeball performance as evil record exec in
"do that thing you do".

tomhanksno1fan, Sunday, 21 November 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree that That Thing You Do was finally something Hanks did well - a villain - but one film that most people missed can't negate ten years of crap.

Girolamo Savonarola, Sunday, 21 November 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Please don't deny yourself the joy of watching the Toy Stories just because of the Hanks/Allen axis. They really are fantastic films, and you hardly notice they're there.

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 21 November 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the thread that caused everyone on ILF to scamper over to IMDB to look up that forgotten, woefully underrated film in Allen's filmography... only to be bitterly disappointed and have to sulk back over here to say "Toy Story."

More power! arararar ::GRUNTS::

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Toy Story I, Toy Story II, and Galaxy Quest are all good movies. So, sorry, Dan, but he's done three good movies.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything Hanks did was golden up until Forrest Gump. That movie ruined him.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

What, even Bachelor party?

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved Bachelor Party! Even "Bosom Buddies" and "Big" are good films compared to crap like "Castaway".

I'd say "Philadelphia" was the Hanks turning point. All of a sudden he was an "actor".....
