Why I Bootleg Movies

There's about six versions of "Showgirls" available on DVD, including a collector's addition box set. "Going Overboard" with Adam Sandler (my choice for the worst film ever made) has a DVD release.

Why do my favorite movies take forever to get released?

"La Dolce Vita" finally got released this year, Fantoma still hasn't released the Kenneth Anger Collection (they've said it's "coming soon" since 2002), still waiting on the Vic Chesnutt documentary "Speed Racer" (it's supposed to be available soon), and WHERE THE HELL IS THE DVD FOR GODARD'S "WEEKEND"??????

What a shame...

You said it. I also demand shiny new discs of Ugetsu, Sansho Dayu, The Conformist, Two or Three Things I Know About Her, Le Samourai, Zigeunerweisen, The Ballad of Narayama, and Vengeance Is Mine. And I mean now!

i take what they give me. on my budget i figure it is better for things to trickle out rather than a whole bunch of stuff come out at once.

some Mizoguchi really would be nice tho...

jay OTM wrt kenneth anger frustration - COUGH IT UP, FANTOMA

I'd like to believe you joseph, but I've been hearing that a "Weekend" release is imminent for about five years now. I've learn to not get my hopes up & instead continue to wear out my VHS copy.

Has Fassbinders' "Fox and His Friends" received a DVD release yet? I was so glad to see "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul" given the Criterion treatment.

The Anger DVD delay is probably his fault. He's constantly reworking his old films or something, they can't produce and distribute a disc without his OK.

I'm sure that is at least part of the problem. I wish Fantoma would just drop the project & Criterion would jump on board.

i'm very anxious for the charles burnett titles allegedly coming from milestone ("killer of sheep", "my brother's wedding", etc.) but there's no official timeline on those, so i could be waiting awhile.

i'm glad criterion has "l'eclisse" almost ready, but there's still a lot of work to do on the antonioni dvd front...

but for the most part, i find that time/money are more problematic than available dvds. there's always a backlog of a thousand things....

I'm just grateful there's a DVD of Watermelon Man finally available.

"I also demand shiny new discs of...Two or Three Things I Know About Her"

I posted this on another thread, but I think it was eaten by the memory bug. Anyway, I was looking at Rialto Pictures website recently, and they are currently restoring that particular film for a roadshow (ala "A Woman Is A Woman" & the upcoming "Masculin/Feminin"). Ergo, Criterion will probably get to do the DVD in the next couple of years. If this happens, may I please ask that they please do it as a double with "Made In The USA" on the 2nd disc?

I'll second that.

fox and his friends is most certainly out on dvd, jay, as are a majority of his films thanks to the fassbinder foundation (in addition to ali and the BRD trilogy courtesy of criterion).

in addition to kenneth anger, russ meyer also rules this thread for me.
