is it the altitude or something? does it affect the knuckler?

surely a thin-air thing.

They wanted him to give up the runs he'd cough up in Coors Field at home tonight.

thin air.

yeah I'd think that a knuckleball would be most effective when it has the most amount of air molecules to affect it and vice versa

Yeah - according to people in the know, off-speed pitches don't break as well in high altitudes, since there's less "stuff" for the baseball to "bump up" against, and since the knuckleball is THE off-speed pitch, it makes sense to give Wake a pass when the team comes to Denver.

breaking pitches don't break as much at high altitudes. look at the rockies' team ERA for all the evidence you need.

LOWE IS BACK. BABY

for the time being

it feels nice to say though

his control still wasn't there, but he's striking out a normal amount of batters. which is, for me, troubling.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, i'm not going to worry. he wasn't throwing strikes, and it's the dodgers. if anyone got to see the game, did he look any different than in the past?

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

what about for the first few innings though? i caught it starting at like the 5th and it seemed like he was "losing it" a bit, it's hard to believe he never had it but pitched six shutout innings! his pitch count was up, though. sinkerball pitchers are kind of hexed i think. when you've only got one pitch...

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

(haha and then i looked at the title of this thread.. well, with wake you don't know if it's going to be a ball or a strike. with a bad sinker you just lay off it, and it drops out of the zone)

ten years pass...
