Giants vs. Red Sox (6/19/04)

I got 2 tix (coming in the mail!!! *bites nails*) for tomorrow's day game. Lots of local hype, particularly due to the healthy New England ex-pat (harhar) population in the region.

"[T]he Giants and the Red Sox ... have not met in a game that counted since the World Series in 1912... The year the Titanic sank."

also notable: the Yanquis are in Dodger Stadium for the first time since they lost in the 81 world series.

dude, will call, dude.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, they are coming from across the state.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

A guy in Fort Worth sent me two passes for the Colonial Golf Tournament. He put them in the mail the Monday before the tournament started and they arrived the Wednesday after the tournament was completed.

I hope that doesn't scare you too much.

boldbury (boldbury), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no, I mean why didn't you will call them? That's always the easiest option, and no shipping!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i was the third party.

a one act play:

Wednesday 6/16/04
CC: Dude, can you go to the game on Saturday?
G!: Hells yeah!
CC: Okay, I'll have the tickets send the tix to your house.

They are his company seats so that may be an issue with the will call/ticket transfer.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, watcha gonna do?

boldbury (boldbury), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna hope they show up today because my mailman doesn't show up until 3pm on Saturday and the game will probably over by then.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

well then he should've overnighted them on his company's tab, obv.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

this wasn't the host, it was the recipient.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

THEY SHOULD'VE SENT THEM IN THE COMPANY JET

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i was in the giants dugout store this morning at the stadium and there was a large line (for 10am) of people hoping to buy tix for tonight's game. the ticket sales dude says, "tonight's game is sold out. so is tomorrow's. i have ONE standing-room-only for sunday".

sfgate says there is a pair of tickets being sold on craigslist for upwards of $1,200.

hope those tix come gygax, it's going to be an amazing series. you could actually feel the excitement around the park this morning. there were quite a few red sox fans cicrulating about, checking out the surroundings.

metfigga (metfigga), Friday, 18 June 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

To answer Dave: YES.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 18 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't have a ticket but after work i'm heading over to the park to soak up the atmosphere. it's going to be something to see. maybe i'll even browbag an anchor steam or something to kick off the weekend.

metfigga (metfigga), Friday, 18 June 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 19 June 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What an asshole Barry Bonds is. I hate that man.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

oh now i know what you're referring to.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

so did you make the game, gygax!?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it was a lot of fun! There were SOOOOOO many Red Sox fans... It was almost as loud as the SF/LA games. I saw a couple fights (even in the corporate ticket section!). I went with a Red Sox fan so that made it fun. Pedro getting smacked around early kind of quelled the crowd until Barry misplayed that bases-loaded single that tied the game up. (Of interest to David R:) Alfonzo's family moved back to SF from NY last week now that's school's out and the results are pretty telling.

I got to see Schmidt pitch on TV yesterday. He'll probably get robbed of the Cy Young again but it's pretty amazing to watch him.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

They (the Giants) should just bench Alfie until mid-June, play him every day until early September, and then bench him again.

The number of Red Sox fans I saw / heard in the games I watched last week was frightening. But, of course, in Coors Field, a fucking YANKEES SUCK chant started. Idiots.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

the TV broadcast showed this graphic yesterday:

edgardo alfonzo
through june 20, 2003: .227 BA, .304 OBP, .335 SLG
through june 20, 2004: .280 BA, .354 OBP, .486 SLG

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So that says he actually played like Edgardo Alfonzo from the end of last June to right now?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

he started a little slow this year but he's on fire this month, much hotter than he ever got even last year.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Must've bought a cell phone.
