yes, he was on the dodgers. hit one (maybe more?) of their patented walk-off grand slams this season.

My 2 biggest Robin Ventura memories are his slide into home plate that destroyed his ankle during spring training in 1997 and his courageous physical comeback from this (only to be let go by the Sox at the end of the season), and his "walk off single" against the Braves while he was on the Mets in the '99 NLCS where he never actually crossed home plate because his teammates mobbed him. A class act and a gamer, as they say.

And SO damn sexy. For a Republican.

"...and THIS one's for your WIFE, creep!"
"Sorry, Mr. Ryan, I really didn't mean it Mr. Ryan, please stop hitting me Mr. Ryan!"

One of my first baseball memories is the last game of the 1990 season between the White Sox & Red Sox, w/ the Red Sox needing a win to secure the division. Robin Ventura's swing looked gorgeous. It lost some luster when he left Chicago, but, still, man.

I also remember the series against the Braves. It was truly Red Sockian, that night, when he hit the grand slam that counted as a single. It was sheer delirium, the impossibility of it all. A boy named Robin - ROBIN VENTURA.

I read something recently where Ryan taking out Ventura was one of George W. Bush's favorite baseball moments or something.

God, that explains a lot.
