so, barring a series of unfortunate events, how do you rate the nats?

c-schneider
1b-wilkerson/johnson
2b-vidro
3b-vinny
ss-guzman
rf-guillen
cf-chavez/wilkerson
lf-sledge/wilkerson

sp-hernandez, ohka, day, armas/loaiza/kim/patterson(?)
rp-ayala, horgan, osuna, cordero

the projected configuration of rfk looks fairly pitcher friendly.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Thursday, 20 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep forgetting they're still the Expos. I was half expecting there to be an expansion draft.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 January 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Their pitching might not be too shabby but their lineup is pretty weak. How long until Jose Guillen gets clocked by Frank Robinson? I say it could happen before they get out of spring training, let alone the regular season. Los Expos have been the penal colony of baseball for the past few years, it seems they get saddled with headcases no body wants, at least until the pennant stretch run.

As long as he has been in the game, I would like to see Frank Robinson have one last shot at a playoff run with a club. I tend to doubt he will be their manager past this season, so if it has to happen this is the year. It probably won't happen unless stars align and everyone has their best season ever and quite a few players play above what they have done before.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather see Frank Robinson clock Jim Bowden & Bud Selig first before he sets his fists on any players.

So how long before a Sunday game do RFK's gates open? (Nats' site doesn't say) Can I watch BP from the lower level?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to thursday's game--i'll see if i can find out

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Livan left in for 122 pitches, 8 innings 2 outs, where he IBB's Bonds to get to Moises who promptly hits a game-winning 3-run homer for SF.

Isn't the Washington closer supposed to be one of the tops in the NL? Why on earth would you leave in Leave-On in that instance?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

the washington closer is overrated and struggling lately--gave up back-to-back jacks ten days ago to chipper and andruw, think he blew another game in SD over the weekend. anyway, using numbers to explain the decisions of frank robinson is pointless.

"Jon Moeller will not be allowed access to the clubhouse while the team investigates. The Nationals have asked the Christian ministry Baseball Chapel, which appoints and oversees the volunteers, to provide a replacement.

According to an article published Sunday in The Washington Post, Nationals outfielder Ryan Church said he asked Moeller if Jews are "doomed" because they do not believe in Jesus. Church said Moeller nodded, the Post reported."

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I don't get the controversy. Isn't 'people who don't believe in Jesus go to hell' standard Christian dogma?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

"standard christian dogma" wait how many denominations and styles of christianity are there?

anyway the only controversy for me is whether i should start that dumbass church anymore or bench him for being a douchebag.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

on a related controversy

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 05:06 (twenty years ago)

Of all the variations and styles of Christianity, 'you gots to believe in the Big Man' is still a given, to my knowledge.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

the big man doesn't necessarily mean jesus!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 05:19 (twenty years ago)

Grudge fans may note that Moises most likely took particular satisfaction in that dinger given that Livan beat him for World Series MVP in 1997, wounding Alou's ego so deeply that Alou named one of his several horses "The Real MVP"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

If milo meant 'fundamentalist' dogma, then I agree. The Catholics and Episcopalians, to name two, have officially renounced "the Jews are going to hell" tenet.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

WHO IS THE NATIONALS' COLOR MAN AND WHY DOES HE SOUND EXACTLY LIKE JAMES WOODS???? seriously, i get tricked by this everytime i tune in.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I've been told I sound like James Woods. Maybe it's me!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

The reason for the Nats' collapse - REVEALED!

The Nationals can’t officially name a successor until a new owner is named, but it’s possible Bob Boone, a former major league manager who served as an assistant to Bowden this year, would take over at least some of the responsibilities. Bowden leaned heavily on Boone’s evaluations this year and didn’t make a major move without consulting Boone. The fact that Bowden relied on the opinions of Boone and two other assistants he hired—Jose Rijo and Jose Cardenal—made it clear that Adam Wogan’s future with the organization was in jeopardy.

They are trying to build with cheap young players instead of expensive older ones.

Soriano's 45th HR broke Vlad's franchise record (2000).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 10 September 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Alfonso Soriano, while trying to get his elusive 40th SB this season which would gain him entry to the exclusive 40-HR/40-SB club (Cansenco, Bonds, A-Rod), has been caught stealing in the past 3 games.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

Alfonso Soriano is now the 4th member of the 40/40 club.
