yankees-- sox are gonna slip this year imo (i.e. tough wild card race), very dependent on both old players and young players. i'm the only one who thinks their starting pitching is potentially very thin? esp. if beckett is on-and-off the dl, and dice-k has another 16-13 season. if ortiz gets hurt and someone like ellsbury doesn't live up to what he did in the playoffs, couldn't they lose a tough wild card race to the tigers or the indians? not saying, just saying.

meanwhile the yanks have two solid front line starters (wang/hughes) plus the probably unmatchable hitting. i mean i wouldn't be surprised if the sox won the division, i just don't know if they deserve the anointment yet.

Maybe I'm biased, but I'd like to see Hughes put together a fullish season against major league hitters before he's considered a #2.

Also, if Melky proves to be the .220 hitter he was at the start & end of last season, and their old dudes come up lame or act their age, and the young turk starters don't do as well as projected, and either Joba or Mariano spits the bit, couldn't they lose a tough wild card race to the AL Central runner-up as well?

Anyway, go Tampa Bay.

yeah i agree with this, i guess i just think there is a better chance of it happening to the sox. i just see a lot of variables with them, things like depending on mike lowell to put up the stats he had last year even though it was beyond a career year, things like that. the only thing is either team will be ruthless at the deadline if necessary so who really knows.

J0rdan S., Monday, 31 March 2008 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, the most likely thing: the Orioles will be awful.

David R., Monday, 31 March 2008 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah. The AL East is a mess this year and I still can't see the Orioles finishing other than last. I wish I could like the Nationals.
