It's all over Schwab. It's time for you to go. If that is your idea of gaining some respect it shows how far the club and your coaching has fallen. How do you gain respect by punching and kicking players being held on the ground? BTW Schwaby, we kicked the next seven goals and eventually won the game by 74 points after your idea of gaining respect was carried out. Schwab, you will get some respect by being competitive.
Yesterday the Hawks were a joke and I have rarely enjoyed a win more.

From what I saw, Vandenberg must be out for a minimum of two weeks, otherwise my paranoia will be out in full.

"Not from Hawthorn people, I walked into the social club and they were all just excited," he said. "They were just so excited that we had finally stood toe to toe with Essendon."
They've lost it at Hawthorn. Toe to toe?!?! Footy is about winning the match, you moron. The Hawthorn president is living up to his name, time for him to depart and he might want to take Brereton with him. What a sad state of affairs.
Answer to Your qustion, Lucy. Murphy has been reported for us and I expect that about 1/2 a dozen will get charged for wrestling and Vandenburg should get at leasr 8 if the tribunal are fair dinkum.

I hope it's a good match with no injuries or reports on either side.
― Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 7 June 2004 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)
The only thing saving Schwab from the bum's rush after Saturday's effort is the fact that if he goes, Brereton has the choices of a) following him out the door or b) looking like a complete hypocrite as well as everything else. There is no option c).
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 7 June 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)
The same could be said about half a dozen other Essendon players, some who have been there a little while, some a long while.
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 7 June 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)
JSA has got it wrong. Essendon (and Rioli) are the flat track bullies of the AFL, not the Power. The highest ranked team they have beaten all year is Freo who are very suspect away from Sandgroper land. Get on the Lie ins this week.
― Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 7 June 2004 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't argue with that, we really need to claim a few big scalps before we can be considered contenders.

He was belted by Vandenberg whilst having both his arms held by another Whorethorn player four ot five times, so the answer would be four or five.

I've never seen an Essendon player kick and punch another player whilst being held on the ground by another Bomber. I've seen a Bomber choke another player. Hawka you sound as deluded as your president and your coach.
Personally, I do not think a lot of it was good footy, however, it does happen.
No Hawka, it doesn't happen. Respected clubs are too busy kicking goals and trying to win footy games rather than resort to cheap shots like the rabble that is Hawthorn. They tried to get some respect but now they are pittied more than anything.
― chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

― Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)
We caused the Wetern Derby all-in as well.:-s
I would say that over the last few years we have had a lot of undisciplined players at Essendon who have fired up at the slightest provocation. As I said earlier in this thread I was proud our boys didn't get sucked in to it last week and got on with the footy. It's a big change and a very, very good sign. If this had had have happened two years ago they would have needed to build a new tribunal to cope with the numbers that would have been up on charges.
Sorry, Fred made a joke last week about Collingwood supporters and their porridge.:-)

― Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)
Dale Kickett used to play for Essendon. If that's not enough of a connection for you I can't imagine what might be.
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)
How does Simon Beaumont get to serve his two suspensions concurrently? I think the AFL has opened up a can of worms there, every time a player gets a multiple charge will this be the case?
Hawthorn may have to re-think their respect strategy, maybe they could consider trying to kick goals or something like that. Idiots.
― chrisso (chrisso), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)
Fred, you might be on to something there as Derek's cousin also played for us! Was Scott Cummings playing in that game as well? It alol makes sense now.

"I've never seen an Essendon player kick and punch another player whilst being held on the ground by another Bomber"How long you been around? Essendon are well known for their physical "tactics" and have been since before the 70s. They tried some of those tactics against the Saints and were well beaten.
"No Hawka, it doesn't happen. You're are baiting me aren't you ??? Do follow the soccer and support what they do with their faking and everything (a bit like some of the bombers that were felled by softest of touches)?
"Respected clubs ...." like the Bombers ????
"Hawthorn got what they deserved and the tribunal has won some respect.LOL"LOL is right
"I think the AFL has opened up a can of worms there, every time a player gets a multiple charge will this be the case?"I honestly thought that's the way it always has been .... I could be wrong - again :)
As I keep hearing on the Radio ... the best $20 grand ever spent.
How true.
― Hawka (hawka), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)
Some of the Bombers faked. What about the ones that didn't? The tribunal is there to sort out the truth from the crap. Which it did last night. Result? 15 weeks. Goodnight, farewell and Amen.
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)
I think David Parkin said it best when he mentioned that the Blue was mere camoflage (can't bloody spell DOH) for Hawthorn's poor form. Also, in the quarter of the blue, the Dons kicked 9 goals OUCH. Kicking goals is all anyone remembers long after the dust has settled.
― Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Thursday, 10 June 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)
Yes, Hawka, like the Bombers. We may not be universally liked, but we are respected.

There can't have been many footballers drag more out of less than Dean Wallis. His work ethic could never be questioned and he wasn't even a particularly dirty player towards the end (I think Green in the 2000 GF was his first suspension since before the Hanna incident, which 10 years later I am prepared to concede may have been legal).
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 11 June 2004 05:25 (twenty-one years ago)
And not for being thugs. For instance when Dean Wallis stopped being a thugDid he stop being a thug. Didn't realise.
standard responses HawkaToo true.
The tribunal is there to sort out the truth from the crap. And we all know how good they are at doing it.
Essendon Respected? Although they came out of the latest melee smelling like roses, I don't think so. The only people that "rate" them are their supporters (same as Hawthorn and a dozen other teams I guess).
― Hawja, Saturday, 12 June 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)
Just found this also"BRISBANE Lions coach Leigh Matthews has drawn the battle lines for another torrid encounter against Essendon at Telstra Dome tonight by nominating the Bombers as the common denominator in AFL melees."http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,9820977-23211,00.html
I know ... an ex Hawthorn player well reknowned for his exploits. But still ...
― Hawka (hawka), Saturday, 12 June 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)
Possible connection between those two statements? Would Vanden-Berk, Brownstuff and co have been so keen for a blue if they knew it would put Director Derrrr-mott directly under the hammer from his fellow commentators?
You'll hear less likely conspiracy theories.
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 12 June 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)
I think it had more to do with who they played. Funny to see them tonight with a couple more reports. Hopefully we'll see a bit of consistency from the tribunal.
― Hawka (hawka), Saturday, 12 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)
Wishful thinking again Hawka!

We're getting a fair idea what Hawthorn are like these days as well.
― Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Saturday, 19 June 2004 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)
'We are not obsessed with Essendon' from anybody at Hawthorn rates right up there with 'Elvis isn't dead' for believability.
And 'Difficult Don' may have helped save Hawthorn (done the headline-grabbing bits anyway) in 1996 but he'd be as much use as a chocolate teapot (which is one of many things he has been called over the years) as President or in any other position of real responsibility. Parkin and Eade were both pretty openly scathing last night.
