Carlton vs Hawthorn - the Hawks to turn the weeks events into a positive and get some joy out of a miserable week.

Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda - St Kilda by at least 10 goals.

West Coast Eagles vs Adelaide - Adelaide to win when they shouldn't.

Port Adelaide vs Sydney Swans - Swans to emulaate last years deads.

Geelong vs Kangaroos - Cats by 1 point

Richmond vs Fremantle - Draw

Melbourne vs Collingwood - Dee's to win for their Queen.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

CARL - Hawthorn are shot. With no Crawford or Mitchell they'd have struggled even before last week's fiasco

ST KILDA - Need to come back hard and will

WEST COAST - Whichever side can recover first from the ignominy of being the only teams to lose to both Carlton and Collingwood will win this. Eagles at home

PORT - Can Sidneyland do it two weeks running?

GEELONG - Instinct. At home and playing with more consistency

FREO - Barring a repeat of last year's hailstorm. It's over here but they're playing Richmond FFS

MELB - No Tarrant, Rocca must be doubtful, Melbourne have been playing better for longer

(Reckon the Lions may be due for another loss as well...who are they playing again Chrisso?)

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Disclaimer: the following tips have been input by someone who has no idea what the Crows will do on any given week and for some unexplained reason continues to tip Richmond…

CARLTON v HAWTHORN

Carlton will stun the football world by winning back-to-back games for the first time since Kouta could run. Kouta will pull out of the match with menstrual cramps and will miss for the eleventh time in twelve games. Hawthorn will be right in this match until a bizarre incident in which one Hawthorn player bowls over another in the second quarter and the Hawks spend ten minutes in a huge brawl amongst themselves. Carlton kick nine for the quarter and Fevola hits the roof instead of Dennis Pagan. Blues by six goals.

BULLDOGS V ST KILDA

The Bulldogs gain the 'unluckiest team in the league' title after having to front up against the snarling Saints coming off their first loss. St Kilda forward Fraser Gehring will shave his head to look like Barry Hall or Frasier Crane and it will pay off as two Bulldog defenders (well that's both of them) run to Aaron Hamill. Jade Rawlings gets ten kicks in the first half and kicks ten behinds but it is the Saints that go on to kick arse. St Kilda by 79 points.

ESSENDON V BRISBANE

Essendon play their 19th consecutive match at the pamper dome but Matty Lloyd's effort of whispering sweet nothings into the umpires' ears as he dives more than a South American soccer star will all come to nought because we all know what happens when the flat track bullies play a decent side. If Brisbane start well the Bombers are finished because Essendon are the biggest frontrunner since the Bulldog on the Mack truck. Look for Kevin Sheedy to do the grandstanding while Acnemanis does the handstanding. Brisbane by 13 points in a cracker.

WEST COAST v ADELAIDE

Clearly the most valuable employee at the Adelaide Cows is its spin-doctor. Why else would the newspapers go on about how the Cows go all right at Subi when they've only won ONE MATCH there against West Coast? The Eagles haven't had winning form but they seem to be able to play four quarters a bit better than the Cows who have a good first quarter and then pull out the deck chairs. With the Cows defenders in the deck chairs, this will give diminutive Eagle forward Phil 'the wrong' Matera the chance to take some spectacular hangers. Eagles by 28 points.

PORT v SYDNEY

With the mullet killer Leo Barry in doubt and Josh Carr back to give Port some drive in midfield this is looking like a Port victory. Port would be stiff if Chad Cornes doesn't pull up with his groin injury but the Swans might all have sore shoulders after patting themselves on the back for halting the Saint juggernaught last week. I reckon the Swans will be fiddling about in the deep pockets of Girlee Stadium and that there might not be a good option to stop Warren Tredrea from putting his foot down. Port by 26 points.

GEELONG V KANGAROOS

Forgotten Roo Jessica Sinclair will turn back the clock to be this week's 'Thump Lingy' rising star nomination. Cameron Ling will shake his head, wipe the blood of his face, admire the latest lump on his ugly looking head and come back for some more second half domination. Sav Rocca and Corey McKernan will go kickless up forward as both are so slow that Matty Scarlet has time to man up on both of em, leaving Tomcat Harley free to run the ball into the cat forward lines. Paul Chapman will bend at the knees while being tackled and grab another swag of free kicks. Cats to lead by 50 at one stage but win by only 9 points at Cat Park.

RICHMOND V FREMANTLE

Sorry Tigers, I'm going to pick you again. While it is true that Bitchmond are an appalling rabble, it will be the football gods that will come to their aid this weekend. The rain will come down and it will wash away what is left of Fremantle's fragile confidence. Freo has NEVER beaten Richmond at the G so, yes, Richmond is carp but they always have been and Freo still hasn't been able to beat them. Without a shred of confidence, but more than both sides have at the mo I say Richmond by 11 points in the stinker of the round.

MELBOURNE V COLLINGWOOD

Traditionally, Collingwood has cleaned up big time against the Demons on the Queen's birthday but this year it will be a Regal comeuppance for the Magpies who have been winning but not thrilling the football world in recent weeks. Jeff White will dominate another match and when White dominates so do Melbourne. The Demons look the real deal this season but I wouldn't back Collingwood without Chris Tarrant with your money. Melbourne by 31 points.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

To cut a long story short - I agree with REB !!!!

Critical games for a few clubs if they loose. I would not like to be in the shoes of Carlton, Collingwood, Port or Fremantle if they do not win. Would really split the comp into three, the premiership between Brisbane Essendon, or St Kilda and really only Melbourne and Port worth a mention from the rest, and everybody else fighting for a ticket to the first week of the finals and no further.

PS. The Lions start is all important, the close games they've lost the at the Dome have all been about fighting back from poor starts - well starts not as good as they have at the 'ttior anyway.

Enjoy the weekend folks.

Big Bird (Big Bird), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Carlton - Hawthorn still reeling from the tribunal
St Kilda - spitting chips and mad as hell
Brisbane of course and Chris Scott is back - yahoo!
West Coast finally get their act together
Between Port & Sydney I can't decide if Leo Barry is OK then Sydney if not I tend to think Port will bounce back from last week
Geelong - more porridge to your boys REB
Dockers - Richmond are crap
Melbourne - Collingwood are crap

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Friday, 11 June 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Carlton vs Hawthorn – Carlton, notwithstanding that they had to travel last week and can't be expected to travel and play the following week. They shouldn't have to make too much of an effort against the rabble from Hawthorn.

Western Bulldogs v St Kilda - St Kilda

West Coast Eagles v Adelaide – Eagles at Subi

Port Adelaide v Sydney Swans – no hustling from Paul Roos this week, might be no cunning plan either after the big win last week. Port at home.

Brisbane v Essendon – Brisbane (can't believe the sanctimonious twaddle emanating from Essendon this week).

Geelong v Kangaroos – Geelong.

Richmond v Fremantle – Freo, surely.

Melbourne v Collingwood – Melbourne.

deelion (deelion), Friday, 11 June 2004 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Carlton vs Hawthorn - Carlscum. Bet Channel 9 are over the moon with this game... NOT
Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda - Saints to bounce back. Dogs have no bark let alone bite. Saints by 80
West Coast Eagles vs Adelaide - Adelaide win when Ayres is on his absolute last chance? Depends on the Adelaide Advertisers headline today... West Coast.
Port Adelaide vs Sydney Swans - Swans are small oval bullies. Port by plenty
Geelong vs Kangaroos - Kardinia Park to rock, Cats never troubled.
Richmond vs Fremantle - Hardest game to pick. Freo, coz richmond are poo.
Melbourne vs Collingwood - Pies. D's travel to Brisvegas and Perth take their toll and tired bodies struggle against resurgent Pies. I wish...

Bennö (Bennö), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Pies. Because cyclops has spoken LOL.

egads,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Gret - use Chrisso's list as a template.

For that, Lions by 50. Loss of Murphy will hurt the Bombers more than they imagine...

Bennö (Bennö), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Justine Murphy, what a star.

He once hit a target in a big game and now the press thinks he can do it regularly. Wait until he dons your club's jumper (which is a chance in the future) and then you'll notice how lazy he is and how many apple turnovers he bakes up.

Chrisso, do you still rate him? He was no loss at Catland let me tell you.

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Carlton vs Hawthorn - Carlton in a close one. Well done hawks gained a lot of respect being beaten by 15 goals and getting 4 blokes rubbed out.
Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda - Saints in a high scoring affair
West Coast Eagles vs Adelaide - Adelaide easily, egirls are absolute rubbish.
Port Adelaide vs Sydney Swans - Port by 10 goals+
Geelong vs Kangaroos - Kangas to upset those cocky cats
Richmond vs Fremantle - Richmond in perhaps the most boring game of the season
Melbourne vs Collingwood - Who cares, hope they belt the shite out of each other, more importantly id like to see buckley streaming down the wing and hear the sound of his hamstring splitting in 2.

jsa, Friday, 11 June 2004 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuggen L Jase, did someone spit in your coffee today LOL.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Friday, 11 June 2004 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Chrisso, do you still rate him?

When we drafted both he and Allan I was seriously doubting the sanity of some of the people in our football department.

I am happy to say they have both been sensational and Allan has turned into our first choice ruckman! Cant believe it! Everything they have done has been a bonus in my eyes because I was expecting nothing.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Gees, 6 from 7 coming into Collingwood vs Dees.

Buckley to kick 5 from CHF to guide the Pies home...

Bennö (Bennö), Sunday, 13 June 2004 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Melbourne by 2points. Rocca to play and still not kick more than 2 goals

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Sunday, 13 June 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

This was in the Age:

In just a couple of hours on Saturday night, Brisbane completely and utterly changed the complexion of an AFL season that had been three months in the making.

Nuff said.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 14 June 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, forgot to say well done Lions, too good.

Did anyone see a piece of play in the third quarter where Voss was chasing the ball with McPhee, got rid of him with a beautiful bump the picked up the ball clean as a whistle, on the run, and then gave the perfect hand-ball to a team mate who then goaled. My God.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 14 June 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think its possible to read too much into the Brisbane win.

Great 1st half of footy and then I don't think Brisbane stepped up just that Essendon fell away a bit and when the standard of footy had been so high you can look pretty ordinary very quickly. Real test for Essendon will be against the D's, a lost there and then Brisbane's win comes into prespective. (D's have just gone 9 points up in the last quarter)

Big Bird (Big Bird), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Chrisso it was a great display of good footy on both sides. The first half was scary it was so good. Yes Vossy's bump was fantastic especially as the commentators were saying at the exact time that he hadn't had a great impact on the game!!!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 14 June 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Great 1st half of footy and then I don't think Brisbane stepped up just that Essendon fell away a bit and when the standard of footy had been so high you can look pretty ordinary very quickly

Our first quarter and a half was the best footy we have played all year and the game changed when the Fletch and Peverill incident occured, Brisbane got a real lift from that and the way they all ran up to the kid to say well done sums up why the Lions are so good. Teamwork and bravery.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

His name is Anthony Corrie and just found out he is out for six weeks. Tough luck.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes Chrisso, Corrie has been a really good player for us. He was drafted from the same club as Jared Brennan - best mates. He's bulked up a little since he arrived at the club, and he's certainly playing good footy.

"they all ran up to the kid to say well done sums up why the Lions are so good. Teamwork and bravery. "

Interesting you notice this Chrisso, thought we we've the only ones who give this behaviour any credit.
I was astounded yesterday watching the Melbourne vs Collingwood game. Aaron Davey seemed to be playing by himself at times. No support coming from his team mates. Melbourne players spent a lot of time winning the ball and moving it on with no team support - amased they won!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez lucy, fire up, give it to the bumber supporters, they are overrated hacks, full team, home ground, and have their pants pulled down, wow impressive they stayed with brisbane for 2 quarters. Oh well they should be right they have the next 10 games at home.

jsa, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Some blokes prefer it that way Lucy, they don't like being the centre of attention. Like Bruce Doull for instance. Or blokes like Shaun Hart or Scott Burns.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed Lucy. You've gone as soft as Essendon against a good side when it comes to the Bombers. Come on girl....give it to em!!

regards,

REB

ps - LOL@the 'Flat track bullies'. Still haven't beaten anyone ranked ahead of 7th all year..easiest tip of the season that one :)

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

South Australian trolls.:-)

chrisso (chrisso), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

What can I say - we flogged them in 2001. Took the flag right out of their sticky spoilt fingers and we just keep rubbing it in!

Now REB you should be quaking in your oats. Should have Hart, B Scott, McRae all back and ready to go this week.

Bring on Skilled Stadium!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Just make sure they win LL, couldnt cope with the cheshire cat REB

jsa, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

:D

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry JSA. We can't beat the gun sides and we can't win interstate. The Lions are still kings of the jungle but let's hope that THIS time our boys won't be overawed like they usually are when we play the champs.

regards,

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

id like to see ya win REB, but $50 on port to finish higher then geelong means i hope u get smashed, but take a few of their blokes out

jsa, Thursday, 17 June 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Who was the fule who backed the Catters to finish above Port? I don't think we'll win but we won't get smashed either.

REB
