I thought he'd been suffering effects of too much sun for the last 20 years...

Maybe NOW he'll learn to keep his head out of his bum.....

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 12 January 2004 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Now if he coached Collingwood, they would probably count his holiday in Perth as one of their trips away for the Home and Away season. Maybe he's done a deal with Mr Ed and Mickey Malthouse and they have swapped one trip to Telstra Dome for Collingwood's trip to Perth!!!

Oh I'm sooooo cynical!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Monday, 12 January 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sheedy in Perth for talks with Freo. Believed to be interested in a job as Coaching Director for the next BIG thing in the AFL.

First visitor to the hospital was Mitchell White, who, apparently asked if Sheedy's throat was OK.

John Worsfold brought a bunch of flowers and a scarf for him to wave.

News is bloody slow if this is all we have to report.

FFS it's January. The next newsworthy event in the AFL is booked in for 26 March.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It's almost as bad as a recent afl.com.au poll - i.e. which is the most boring month of off season...surely the answer is all of them?

OCTOBER Boring: The Oval WOFTMAE, the trading period (grandstanding agents and club officials swapping a dozen cliches per player), back page stories about who got pissed where on AFL club EOS trips. Not boring: The start of the domestic cricket season

NOVEMBER Boring: The draft. Not boring: Test cricket (usually, 2003 was an exception), Oz Open golf

DECEMBER Boring: Articles in Sunday papers featuring Santa Claus sacks for each AFL coach, pre-season draft. Not boring: Christmas, Boxing Day Test

JANUARY Boring: Pics of AFL players running around the tan , with obligatory caption about working off the Christmas pudding. Not boring: Sydney New Year Test (series decider), Oz Open tennis, ODI cricket if that's your caper

FEBRUARY Boring: Full page articles about the upcoming pre-season comp and Your Club's Chances. Not boring: Pura Cup builds to climax, Davis Cup (in Feb Oz are usually still involved even in the bad years), Test cricket tours by Oz, important stages of EPL and FA Cup

MARCH Boring: Pre-season comp, return of T!@ F@@#$ S^&*, 'Your Club In 2004: An In Depth Analysis By Mike Sheahan'. Not boring: The bloody comp actually STARTS and the bulldust finishes.

LOL. Nice work Frederick. Except there wasn't any (Australian) test cricket last November...

Which, Erik, was why I said 2003 was an exception to the rule.

This desparate need of the AFL to keep itself newsworthy over summer really is a bit sad.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Or FredN if you live in Brisbane in:
October - No AFL or Club News
November - No Club News - Ooops that's right we get to hear that Collingwood have increased their membership base. And a report on FoxFooty News Update that each individual club has returned to training - all except Brisbane that is
December - No AFL or Club News - Ooops that's right Collingwood have a Christmas party
January - Everyone is preparing for the Wizards Goblet.

LUCY LION/BBFFC Fitzroy Gorilla Brisbane Bears Lethal's Lot social events roster for 2004.

Jan - Chimp chick's Gorilla grams.
Feb - Mlle monkey's team Lion on the beach.
Mar - Gorilla girl's Brisbane Bollocks hour.
Apr - Banana babe's kings of the jungle grapevine forum.
May - we please have a rest from the Lie ins?.
June - This month's special....I love Lucy as Brisbane suffer their two losses from four matches 'mid-season slump'.
July - Jungle Jane's CFS Lie in for big Al...who gets another free.
August - Petite primate's Brisbane karoke..featuring 15 clubs all singing 'We are the great pretenders...'.
September - Fiesty Fitzroy female shopping hour...or how to get cheap Brasso for all of those premiership trophies.
October - Bootylicious Brisbane Babe cut price player rentals, aka Vossy takes another paycut for another flag.
November - rain. Just in time for the Brisbane test match.
December - Gabriellia Girl salary cap lottery, aka Lyncy retires and Matty Lloyd joins the Lie Ins so Essengorn can keep Sheedy for another three years of finishing 5th.

Looks like being a big year for footy...unless you barrack for one of the 15 pretenders...long live the Australian Premier League..

Glaring omission from my second-last post to this thread:

MARCH: So boring and irrelevant it slipped my mind completely, even though I was trying to think of things that were boring and irrelevant: The Mike Sheahan Top 50.
