AIS/AFL Squad of under 17's will play Curtain Raisers a three-test International Rules series against Ireland in April.

The first test will be played as a curtain raiser to the round-three clash between the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood at the Gabba, while the second test will be played before the Easter Monday match between St Kilda and Richmond at Telstra Dome.

The third and final test will be a stand alone fixture in Perth on the Thursday evening after the Easter Monday match.

That's great news Lucy, I'll make sure I'm there for that one. Enjoyed the past couple of series between Australia and Ireland.

I can see it now, leave work about 12.30pm and meet the gang at the Lord Stanley for late lunch and one of their great steaks, balance and objective discuss about the short-comings of Collingwood and the great strengths of Brisbane over cold beer, develop theory around the likelyhood of a Collingwood forfeit becasue of the imbalance between the sides, get to the ground and express amazement at the heat and humidity (still early April in Brisbane folks), watch the boyo's go at it, yell at International umpires because they do not know the rules (showing my vast knowledge of IR footy and the importance of under-age sport), watch the Lions eat the Pies (been done the death that one), saunter home stopping at Hungry Jack's at Kedron for traditional victory snack before watching replay on video.

Life is a joy, is it not. (Thanks to public education, are you watching Little John)

Yes BB I quite enjoy watching the International Series. If nothing else it's good to see the camaraderie grow between players from different clubs.

"(Thanks to public education, are you watching Little John) " ???? have I missed something (more than usual!)

BB - I liked most of that. Except Collingwood getting rolled by the Lions... Hmmm.

Is it wrong to plan a 3 week holiday in Victoria and surrounds around when Collingwood plays football? The missus is wondering why we have to be back in Melbourne on various weekends...

S'OK Benno, I think the good folk from Collingwood are gathering at the Pineapple or the Aussie Nash for similar objective discussions before the game.

For me, if the Pies get up, no Hungry Jack's and I'd probably watch the video on Good Friday - still a good night.

It is probably stretching the friendship with the good wife to be heading back to Melbourne each week-end. Here are some suggested tips I used recently in the very same situation.
- we can catch that new show at the ...... and then tomorrow we/I can go to the footy (win/win) just make sure the show does not clash with game time
- we can get a great week-end rate at that boutique motel near the MCG.... Oh bugger me, look a footy game, fancy.
- I need to catch up to long lost Uncle Kevin who happens to live at Richmond........... Oh bugger me, look (as per above)
- "Honest dear I just walked into this Dome thingame thinking it was part of the casino.......Oh bugger me," etc
- (If Collingwood are at Geelong) do the Great Ocean Road thing all week and drive back through Geelong just after lunch on your way back to visit Uncle Kevin,.......Oh bugger me, etc

Send a rock wrapped in a $10 to my postal address if more scenarios are required. Remember there are many shops and cultural centres within walking distance of the MCG....... deals can be done!!!

LOL! Unfortunately, I have a feeling she would see through each of my simple ruses!

Can I send her to the show when I play Moonah Links? It would want to be a long and rather entertaining show I 'spose!

Very disappointed you guys are assuming the "good wife" is not interested in the footy and would rather spend time with you lot rather than the excitement of a great game of footy. For me - give me the footy any day.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That true Lucy and shame on me. My wife for one would probably go to the footy rather then a couple of things on offer in Melbourne.

Forgiven? You girls have got no idea what this testosterone does to your system.

"Forgiven? You girls have got no idea what this testosterone does to your system. "

Yeah BB just don't make a habit of it! As for the Testosterone - who cares! We give it as much thought and condiseration as you guys give women for menstruation, child birth, menopause etc etc.

All of it, testosterone, menstruation etc is just part of our makeup and no excuses for any of us.!!!

Lucy

Luckily, I believe the missus would probably come along to the footy, as she was brought up with her father being the Captain coach of the local side in riverina nsw, and she watches each of my games week in week out in freezing canberra...

Bennö (Bennö), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Well Benno this is good to hear. But as a Lions fanatic I'd probably disagree with your comment ....

"Is it wrong to plan a 3 week holiday in Victoria and surrounds around when Collingwood plays football"

lol
