Marquis de Sade - 120 days of sodom:
hundreds of pervs doing thousands of exreme things to a zillion virgins.

s. pot. (Spot Berlin), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, you come back from Easter and ILB has been kidnapped by Italians. These 25 word threads are confusing me.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Miket G,
as far as I know, it happened that this site was quoted in an Italian site because of the 25-word game you play here.
I guess some Italians found it interesting and wanted to play.
To tell you the real truth, I'm Italian and found your use of the word "kidnap" a bit vulgar (would you have used it if the "invaders" had been French or Swedish?).
Why not to write "No Italians allowed" as a headline?
Anyway, I won't surf this site again: so that you'll get rid of, at least, one of the Italians you found so annoying.
Sorry for exceeding the 25 words...

demiurgo, Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey, I think I should have used one of those smiley face things at the end of my post.

Absolutely no offence intended. I don't find any Italians annoying (well maybe Pippo Inzaghi, but that's it).

I wish you well and it's a shame you've misinterpreted my post. I shall aim to be less ambiguous in the future. I wish you well.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I'm intrigued. Why does demiurgo think that the word 'kidnapped' applied specifically to him/her being Italian? Am I missing something really obvious?

I didn't think your mail was offensive. But then, we have the same first language.

Also, I think the Italians may have felt rebuffed by another thread. But I don't speak any Italian, so I don't know. I probably should learn some. Dublin is full of Italian people. It would be nice to know what they're all talking about.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe circumstances played a part here (Italians being kidnapped in Iraq etc). Perhaps he/she thought I was trying to make a point. I wasn't and didn;t even consider this until today.

What I didn't understand was a thread called 'in 25 words'. Is it an extension of the Summarise a Novel thread? I don't know. I was trying to be light hearted as I usually do. Perhaps regular posters realise this and let me get away with it! Perhaps, as accentmonkey says, it's a translation issue.

I was planning on going to Italy on holiday this summer. Better not now, in case I get lynched!

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You won't get lynched Mikey G., come on (Just kidding! Do I have to put a smiley myself?).

The sentence by you (Mikey G.) that I didn’t like at all was “ILB has been kidnapped by Italians”.
A quotation from my MacMillan dictionary for “kidnap”:
"to illegally take someone away and make them a prisoner, especially in order to make their family or government give you money or allow you to do what you want:e.g.Three American journalists have been kidnapped by political extremists".

Now, accentmonkey, I know English isn’t my first language, but that word used in that context, in this moment, sounded a bit insulting to me. That’s all.

Ok! Perhaps I was a bit strict in getting the meaning of the word and, yes, I was upset because of our (meaning Italian) fame of being often involved in those sort of crimes...
Add to this the horrible story of the Italian man who was killed yesterday in Iraq (although I think he shouldn’t have been there,I must say he was killed so cruelly).

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding.

demiurgo, Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Now we're all friends again, I'd like some suggestions for my holiday this summer. We're planning on Tuscany and Umbria for two weeks in September. Probably Pisa, Florence, Siena, San Gimiwotsit and some places in Umbria where my girlfriend used to live.

Plus a visit to Arezzo where there is a hotel with rooms based on Bruce Chatwin's books.

Please add to my itinerary.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

... Hi Mikey! Could You please tell me why so many English people love Tuscany so much? Maybe it's Sting's fault, or Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothin'"? Mmmh... Tuscany is really HOT and arid in summer... and S. Gimignano is absolutely wonderful to visit when the wind blows and there's a ochre dust storm all around... ;o))))
(I'm joking, of course. I love Tuscany too... in spring!!!:o)))
Why don't You come to Liguria, Cinque terre, West Coast) or Veneto (I'm venitian), East Coast)?

And You all, Guys... nor Mrs. Dalloway, neither 120 Days...

(IMO, s.pot, Marquis De Sade is a simple pathological case and above all, a really mediocre and boring writer... He describes exciting pervs just like the phone book and his alienating novels are the most overestimated ones in French literature, indeed.

Well, the two just cant' be compared, of course... but he's not the XVIIIth Century's Easton Ellis... :o))) He keeps writing the same, poor book with a different name... Justine, 120 Days... yawn...

Let's try once again! It's not so difficult.
... I'll give you a sign...
... "The key is going on a pilgrimage", in a way...;o)))

Axi, Monday, 19 April 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you're right when you say blame Sting. In fact blame Sting for everything. Who assassinated the Hammas leader? Sting did.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The Catcher in the Rye ( 1951 ) J.D. Salinger

- - is about loosers. People who wants to be loosers

Jose Pacheco, Friday, 30 April 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we PLEASE blame Sting for everything?

aimurchie, Saturday, 1 May 2004 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Not to be too pithy, but being kidnapped by Italians sounds exciting! We could eat a lot of olives and bread and drink copious amounts of wine. I would be a model prisoner. I would blame everything on Sting.
