It is what it sounds like.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, that's Virginia Woolf.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

there are better photos for the sort of age i wanted in the first photo, i think. i dunno: there's something about these sorts of pictures that talks about how much time actually passed in that thirty or forty years in a way i can't really articulate

Are there 30 or 40 years between those pictures? They don't look that different, and her expression seems about the same in each. Her hair's a bit different, I guess.

all i know is the first one is "pre-1920". "twenty or thirty years" would perhaps be better. (although the less time it is, the more striking it is.) (although no one else finds it striking.) (i really hate the woolf essay that has the "on the date of ____ ____ human nature changed" line: hm.)

it's the way the pictures are taken as much as anything. actually i think i have deciphered it: the third one looks like a STAFF PICTURE from MY JUNIOR SCHOOL. ah well -

Ahh, this reminds me that I stumbled upon her voice on BBC's website yesterday:
An Eulogy To Words
I love her accent. I'm surprised at how beautiful she is too, for some reason I'd never wondered about what she looked like.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Thursday, 10 June 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The first one seems to be stamped 1923.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 10 June 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

She's a bit man/woman old Virginia.

All that living in squares, loving in triangles, I suppose.

I was talking to someone about the Bloomsbury Set once and I said John Milton Keynes. Not my finest hour.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 10 June 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I 'd never noticed before: she looks like Joan Baez!

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

gahhhhhh by first one i'm thinking the second one, because the third one was the first one i found

tom west (thomp), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

IGNORE THE FIRST ONE. THE SECOND ONE IS SOMETIME BEFORE 1920. I'M TIRED.

tom west (thomp), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, ill admit it. im afraid of virginia woolf.

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still laughing at (er... with) Mikey G :) :)

nineteen years pass...

Calgary airport. I’m sure Virginia Woolf would have loved Skittles. pic.twitter.com/hEapueIfH8
